Ronda Rousey was arguably the biggest star responsible for bringing light to women’s MMA. She was the face of women’s MMA during her prime and is still loved by fans globally. Fans loved her skills and attitude, which made her a popular figure. Let us look back at the time when Rousey took shots at Michael Phelps for not mingling with the US National team during the Olympics.

In an interview with Rousey, host Elie Seckbach asked Rousey whether there was anyone who wasn’t nice to her. Rousey responded by name-dropping Michael Phelps. She explained the situation in which the entire US National team was hanging out together in a club.

But according to Rousey, Phelps didn’t mingle with the team and was by himself in a private space. She said, “Michael Phelps needed his own private section of the club to be like private, for him. All these NBA players—who are a bigger deal than this guy—they’re all hanging out with the rest of us …. Hello! We’re your teammates! We’re not a bunch of groupies! Come hang out with us. Who the hell are you?”

Rousey also added, “Michael Phelps had to be kept separate in a different backstage area so he wouldn’t be harassed by all the other Olympians.” She explained that she didn’t like being somebody’s teammate and being treated like a “groupie.”

She ended her answer by taking more shots at Phelps. Rousey said, “Get over yourself. All you do is swim. If someone slapped you every single time you jumped in the pool, then I’d have a little more respect.”

Rousey had a very successful career in the UFC. She was famous for her “armbar” finishes and elite wrestling skills.

She won the women’s bantamweight title in 2013. Since then, she successfully defended the title 5 times and was a champion for over two years. She had impressive victories over Miesha Tate and Cat Zingano.

Unfortunately for her, things would come crashing down after her bout against Holly Holm. The fight ended with a beautifully timed head kick, which most people remember to this day.

After this bout, Rousey fought for the title again against Amanda Nunes. This, too, did not go in her favor after she was knocked out in the first round. Rousey retired after this fight and is currently fighting in the WWE.
