Israel Adesanya knows a thing or two about antagonistic breakups. It was therefore not surprising to see him weigh in on Nigeria and Bayer Leverkusen football player, Victor Boniface’s much-discussed break-up situation. The internet has been abuzz with news that Boniface allegedly broke up with his girlfriend, Norwegian influencer, Rikke Hermine, over a pre-nuptial agreement.

For the uninitiated, a pre-nuptial is signed by a couple before they get married. It dictates how the assets and liabilities of the couple would be divided if they get divorced, and takes precedence over other marital laws. According to reports, Hermine didn’t want a prenup as she felt this meant the Nigeria striker didn’t trust her.

This allegedly led to a flare-up between the two and caused the couple to call it quits. And Adesanya couldn’t help but react to his compatriot’s troubled love life. The UFC legend took to his Instagram Story, where he posted a screenshot of a Facebook post talking about this whole affair along with a short and sweet albeit cryptic caption: “Happy Valentine’s Day xo Be kind stay dangerous.”

Interestingly, the Facebook post Adesanya shared claimed that Boniface did not have any of his assets in his own name, but his mother’s. And this apparently was one of the main reasons Hermine and Boniface broke up. We cannot find any information collaborating with this information. But it does bear a striking resemblance to another case, which had also drawn a strong reaction from ‘Izzy’.

Israel Adesanya’s vocal support for Achraf Hakimi

You will perhaps remember Morocco and PSG star Achraf Hakimi‘s much-discussed divorce case. Hakimi had indeed transferred all his assets to his mother’s name, which prevented his ex-wife, Hiba Abouk from getting a share of his assets when they broke up in 2023. And Adesanya had been very supportive of the Morrocan soccer star.

“Very relatable… Imagine being so fu–en entitled that you think you deserve what a man has worked his whole life for. When you came into his life with nothing and tried to leave with millions. But like Achraf Hakimi, my assets are protected. I woulda taken half her s–t too but I don’t want half of NOTHING,” Adesanya had written in an Instagram Story when the story of Hakimi’s divorce broke.

Of course, the reason ‘Izzy’ seems to react so strongly to such stories is because of his own experiences. After all, one of the former UFC champion’s ex-girlfriends, Charlotte Powdrell had taken him to court to try and get half of his assets, even though they were never married.

And it is hard to see that this wouldn’t have affected Adesanya and made him supportive of other athletes going through similar situations. What do you think about Israel Adesanya’s take on Boniface’s break-up?
