Ever thought you’d hear Khamzat Chimaev and Cristiano Ronaldo in the same sentence? Well, you have now. About a year ago, the fighter had a nice little conversation with the world-class soccer player. The video of the same from Chimaev’s channel had gone viral after the grand reveal. This is not the first time the Portuguese soccer sensation has interacted with the UFC world.

However, after some recent developments, Ronaldo could be closer to the world of UFC than ever before. Chimaev recently moved to the UAE, much closer to Saudi Arabia, which is exactly where Ronaldo lives and competes. A year after the video upload, fans still remember the wholesome moment that sparked in Chimaev’s car. A direct message is what led to the whole thing in the first place, and Chimaev was the happiest. Here’s what happened.

Khamzat Chimaev is one of the most exciting fighters to watch. He has not lost a single fight in his 12-fight career so far, and when you win as much as he does, you want some celebrities on your side. The old video showed us Chimaev’s interesting side as he and his friends became fans of Ronaldo. He even invited Ronaldo to his fight against Gilbert Burns.

“He has a game that’s why he said he could not come. But he’s going to watch my fight,” said ‘Borz’. “When [Ronaldo] started following me, I wrote to him, ‘he’s the champ.’ Then he wrote ‘SMASH EVERYBODY’. 100% brother. Then I invited him to my fight. I’m not a big fan of football, but this guy is big. One of the best guys in the world in football. He’s a nice guy.”

The star ended up declining Chimaev’s requests since he was as busy as one could expect. While the camera rolled, Chimaev and his friends talked about how ‘Borz’ would be a lot richer after “smashing” Burns in the cage. That could open up a way to actually arrange things for Ronaldo to be invited to his fight after that. Of course, that never happened, but the moment became quite iconic in the star’s personal history.

Interestingly, the world of soccer and MMA have gotten much closer recently. World Cup winner and ex-Barcelona star Lionel Messi moved to Inter Miami earlier this year. The Argentine icon is already running the show in the MLS and could easily attend a UFC event in the future. Paris Saint-Germain’s French striker Kylian Mbappe was in attendance to cheer on compatriot Cedric Doumbe for his debut for PFL at their recent show in Europe. With his insane star power, Ronaldo attending a UFC event would be a massive boost for the promotion.

Presently, Cristiano Ronaldo is the face of the Saudi Pro League whose teams spent a fortune bringing world-class soccer players from Europe with mammoth contracts. The UFC’s growing affinity for shows in the region, especially with their ‘Fight Island’ in Abu Dhabi, could see more soccer stars like Ronaldo finally attend a UFC event. Further, it could also set up an encounter between Ronaldo and one of his well-known friends from the UFC sphere.

The fan-favorite soccer star Ronaldo is a very good friend of UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov. He’s also a big fan of the UFC. ‘The Eagle’s love for Ronaldo also stems from his love for two of Ronaldo’s former clubs- Manchester United and Real Madrid. With his teammate Islam Makhachev headlining UFC 294, fans can expect Khabib Nurmagomedov to make a surprise appearance at the PPV. If Ronaldo decides to show up, soccer fans and MMA fans could see two of their biggest stars pose for a click at the Etihad Arena.

However, in spite of Chimaev’s invitation, there is no confirmation that the Al Nassr player will ever show up to a fight. Chimaev will face Paulo Costa in his upcoming bout in the co-main event of UFC 294. It would certainly be an added motivation for him to see the Euro Cup winner cheer him on for his return to middleweight, especially since Chimaev has a few points to prove with this one.

Both Costa and Chimaev have failed to actually fight their previous opponents. The former pulled out of a fight, and the latter couldn’t make the stipulated weight, leading to a fight with a different opponent. Now, the two will face each other soon. But Will Ronaldo ever come down to show his support to ‘Borz’? Only time will tell.
