Soccer legend Cristiano Ronaldo‘s arrival in Saudi Arabia was met with a lot of criticism. However, soon many players followed the Portuguese star to play in the Roshn Saudi League. Now, the UFC has made a deal with the Middle Eastern giants for an event in 2024, prompting a response from Conor McGregor.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has left no stone unturned regarding promoting sports. After the success of their relationship with WWE and the ‘Crown Jewel’ pay-per-views, they turned to the UFC. Dana White‘s promotion recently struck a deal with Saudi Arabia to hold an event in the country soon. Let’s take a look at the details on that front.

Conor McGregor comments on the UFC’s plan for an event in Saudi Arabia

March 2, 2024, will be the day when the UFC will hold its first-ever event in Saudi Arabia, as per reports by ESPN. It will not be a pay-per-view, but rather a Fight Night event which will take place during the Riyadh Season Festival. Moreover, Dana White’s promotion will partner with the Saudi General Entertainment Authority to make that event happen. Conor McGregor seems to be elevated about this venture.

‘The Notorious’ shared a few words of excitement regarding the UFC’s plans for an event in Saudi Arabia. He congratulated both the promotion and the Middle Eastern giants on the announcement of a Fight Night event. Conor McGregor even sent his regards to the Minister and Chairman of the General Authority for Entertainment, Turki Alalshikh.

“Huge congratulations to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the UFC on the major announcement! Incredible news! I am honored! Bravo, [Turki Alalshikh],” said the former double champion. However, this is not the first time the Middle Eastern Kingdom has made a deal with an MMA organization. Saudi Arabia also has a deal with UFC’s rival, PFL.

The PFL already has a deal in place with Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabian officials have been busy when it comes to promoting sports in their country. Having partnered with WWE, to bring superstar soccer players to join their league, they have also been busy in the fight business as well. Days before the announcement of their partnership with the UFC, the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund had bought a minority stake in the PFL. We can expect to see the PFL hold the event in the country soon.

Other than that, Saudi Arabia has also been hosting boxing events. The most recent fight was the crossover boxing match between Jake Paul and Tommy Fury. Now they are gearing up for another crossover clash between Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou. It seems like the variety of sports in Saudi Arabia is growing as we speak.

The WWE has seen a lot of financial success when it comes to its shows in Saudi Arabia. As such, Endeavor would seek the same kind of results from the UFC’s partnership with the Middle Eastern giants.
