Conor McGregor's $8.2M payout—Is he the smartest investor in sports or just lucky?

Conor McGregor seems to be making the most of his partnership with ‘Duelbits’ because he’s been on a winning streak of sorts when it comes to sports betting. While his return to the Octagon is still a matter of concern for many, the Irishman has been making bank while sitting on the sidelines and nursing his toe injury. Seems like his Mystic Mac moniker is not far away after all!

After winning big by putting his money on Nate Diaz, the Spanish national soccer team, that featured an exciting 16-year-old Lamine Yamal, and Lionel Messi‘s Argentine national soccer team, the Irishman was revealed to have made an amount of $8.2 million on his birthday week.

Recently, the Irish superstar’s accurate ‘Mystic Mac’ prediction’s been working wonders for him. Conor McGregor got all his predictions right, except for one where he predicted a 3-1 scoreline on Spain’s Euros final win over England, which ended up being 2-1. He may have gotten that wrong but made $4 million more with a few other accurate predictions.

“Thinking a nice 100k treble also. Spain, Argentina, and Carlos Alcarez Wimbledon! 100k clears 4 million return.. Add that… And I want my money,” Conor McGregor told his representative via text message and he shared a screenshot of it on his Instagram stories. He also captioned: “My 100k treble at 40/1 came in! Winner! €4 million return… 1 mil on Spain solo, 1mill on Argentina solo, 1.6 mil on Nate.”

Besides putting his money on his former rival and the two soccer nations, ‘The Notorious’ also invested some amount in Spanish tennis star, Carlos Alcaraz, who recently won the Wimbledon grand slam by defeating 7-time winner champion, Novak Djokovic. That’s surely a big win for Conor Mcgregor because putting a sum of $100,000 in his three-leg treble made him $4 million alone. It remains to be seen how many more wins he’ll have in the coming days and months with his prediction skills. Meanwhile, there’s been an unusual development regarding McGregor. Apparently, he’s made more money this year than any other UFC fighter.

‘The Notorious’ remains the highest-earning UFC star in 2024

Have an interesting take?

It’s already an established fact that Conor McGregor is the richest MMA star in the world. So there’s no point in comparing that to some other UFC fighter. But the fact that he hasn’t fought for so long and is still making more than a fighter who’s actively competing inside the Octagon is pretty stunning. Yes, McGregor’s recent $8.2 million win has eclipsed even the current biggies of the UFC, including Alex Pereira, who’s been the most active headliner in 2024.

Alex Pereira has headlined twice since the beginning of this year. Reports claim that he made $2 million for his fight against Jamahal Hill at UFC 300 and almost $3 million for his rematch against Jiri Prochazka at UFC 303 on short notice. An estimated total of $5 million did not seem enough to topple the former double champion Conor McGregor.
