Global soccer superstar Lionel Messi has completed his run with French giants Paris Saint-Germain. He will now be heading to the United States and joining Inter Miami in the MLS. Moreover, the news has excited a lot of fans including Miami’s own UFC legend Jorge Masvidal, who took to social media to react to the news.
Lionel Messi dominated the European soccer scene for almost two decades. After winning several domestic and continental accolades, ‘La Pulga’ captured the World Cup in 2022 held in Qatar. Messi confirmed his move to the David Beckham-co-owned MLS outfit in an exclusive interview with ‘Mundo Deportivo’.

It is not unusual to see UFC fighters share their respect for superstars from other sporting worlds. Francis Ngannou was recently seen catching up with soccer’s greatest goalscorer, Cristiano Ronaldo after he got released from Dana White‘s promotion. Similarly, in the wake of the news of Messi moving to Miami, the city’s own Jorge ‘Gamebred’ Masvidal couldn’t pass the chance to greet the Argentine legend in a story on his Instagram handle.

This isn’t the first time Jorge Masvidal has reacted to Lionel Messi. In 2022, when Argentina lifted the FIFA World Cup for the first time since 1986, Jorge Masvidal sent a heartwarming message to the whole Argentine World Cup squad and congratulated them on their historic win. Moreover, ‘Gambred’ wrote, “Congratulations Messi and Argentina. Much love to my Latin brother and sisters.”
Jorge Masvidal has always been a fan of the Argentine icon
‘Gamebred’ has often talked about Lionel Messi on social media. In a post from December, last year, the former UFC BMF champion shared a photoshopped image of ‘La Pulga’ sporting a UFC fighter’s outfit. While the picture looked great, it was clear that Masvidal saw Lionel Messi as a fighter. That is a testament to all of his achievements in soccer.

Masvidal also touched upon the debate of the GOAT in soccer, which is often a very polarizing topic to discuss. He wrote: “Is Messi the GOAT?” While that debate may never end, Messi has proven himself as one of the greatest soccer players to have laced a pair of boots.
After mentioning the Argentine icon many times on social media, Masvidal will be eager to see Messi play for his hometown club. We will have to wait and see how the 2022 World Cup winner fares in a new league.
