“I got a tip for you. Don’t let no one get this close,” Conor McGregor‘s character, Knox, said before head-butting Jake Gyllenhaal. His loud and obnoxious role in ‘Road House’ was loved by many and it even reminded people of McGregor’s long UFC career. The movie was the Irishman’s debut acting project and was released on Amazon Prime, which turned out to be a big hit!
No doubt he took to X in April 2024 and wrote, “Roadhouse is becoming their most-watched movie of all time! 50 million viewers over two weekends. That’s $750 million at the box office—in 10 days!” Now, months after the movie’s release, there is an ache in Conor McGregor’s gut, which he opened up about in his latest livestream.
Conor McGregor left the MMA community in a frenzy yesterday when he unexpectedly showed up on the Duelbits streaming service for a 1 hour and 48-minute long Q&A session with his fans. Suddenly, one fan shifted the conversation to inquire about updates on the theatrical release of his movie. McG stated, “Amazon, Bezos, Jeff Bezos, take Road House, which is on Amazon Prime streaming and round a back through box office.”

“Amazon Prime promotion through all the cinemas—let’s see what we do at the box office with Road House. It’s a go-to movie to watch, and we had the most streams of all movies on Amazon Prime. I hold the record with Road House. Bring it through the box office now and bring it through the pictures.”
McGregor further compared his movie to Adam Sandler’s Uncut Gems, which, as Road House, was initially released on Netflix. However, seeing its potential, the makers decided to run it through cinemas. Conor McGregor hopes for a similar approach, saying, “Similar to what Adam Sandler did with his diamond movie. He had it on Netflix and then ran it through the box office.”
However, this is something we need to pay attention to. As per Variety, if Road House was made for a theatrical release, it would not just change the amount it earned but also the initial budget of the movie. So they had two choices: Craft the film under $60 million for a theatrical release or take $85 million from Amazon Prime and go streaming only. The producers chose the latter, which turned out to be a good choice as it had access to a wider audience.
On the contrary, had they chosen a theatrical release, it is assumed the movie would have made about $150 million- an average collection. Well, we will have to wait and watch to see if Mystic Mac’s suggestion is taken ahead. But one question still stands. What did Jake Gyllenhaal think about working with the former UFC champion?

When Jake Gyllenhaal shared his experience working with Conor McGregor
A year ago, when the trailer for the Road House movie dropped, fight fans, along with movie enthusiasts, were left with their jaws dropped after catching a glimpse of Conor McGregor in it. Fans couldn’t decide whether they had just watched a movie trailer or a UFC promo because of the similarity between McGregor’s role as ‘Knox’ and his real-life persona.
This even impressed Jake Gyllenhaal, who couldn’t stop praising McGregor’s acting skills during a promotional interview for the movie. In March, he stated, “I think we all had great respect for the fight game. The same thing happened with Conor when he came to the movie set. He came in and said, ‘I’m a white belt. I’m here to learn. I don’t know anything about making movies or acting, and I want to learn.’ That type of humility in that space, I tried to bring the same way on the opposite end.”

Well, the project seems to have turned out well, but UFC fans are still waiting for ‘The Notorious’ to get back to the Octagon. While people thought they would get to see him fight Michael Chandler, the latter decided to face Charles Oliveira at UFC 309 instead of waiting for McGregor. We will have to patiently wait for the Irishman to make his comeback.
But what are your thoughts on Conor McGregor’s demand for Jeff Bezos? Do you believe the Road House movie is worth releasing in theaters and will be a profitable venture for Amazon Prime? Drop your opinion below.
