Francis Ngannou is back and back with a bang. The former UFC champ returned to the cage after nearly two years away from MMA to make his PFL debut against Renan Ferreira. And ‘The Predator’ lived up to his fearsome reputation, knocking out ‘Problema’ in the first round of their ‘PFL: Battle of the Giants’ main event bout.
And it seems Ngannou may be looking to broaden his horizons and feature in other combat sports, as his coach Eric Nicksick revealed in a recent interview.
“He’s probably going to get in the WWE next or something, who knows. Whatever’s in front of him, he’s going to conquer it. So yeah it’s a good question. I’m looking forward to whatever he does. Obviously being his MMA coach I prefer to be um in MMA but I mean if we’re going to fight once a year in MMA and that’s the outcome then by all means,” The Xtreme Couture head coach said in a recent interview.

While Nicksick floated a possible WWE stint, he also kept the door open for a possible boxing return. Especially since the coach felt that Ngannou was only going to fight once a year at the PFL, which left him so much time to pursue other things. However, it is worth noting that both the WWE and the UFC are owned by the same parent company- TKO Group.

And given the animosity between Ngannou and UFC, and the fact that he is signed with the Dana White-led promotion’s biggest competitor, it is very unlikely that ‘The Predator’ will be welcomed in the WWE. But as far as boxing goes, the prospects for Ngannou are much brighter.
Francis Ngannou still determined to continue boxing despite setbacks
Francis Ngannou’s boxing career started strong. Months after leaving the UFC, the PFL heavyweight realized his childhood dream and made his pro-boxing debut against then-heavyweight champion Tyson Fury. And in one of the biggest upsets in the history of combat sports, Ngannou knocked down Fury and went on to lose a controversial, one-point split decision.

Is Ngannou's MMA dominance enough to make him a boxing legend despite his defeat by Joshua?

His second boxing fight, however, was an absolute disaster. After all, Anthony Joshua obliterated Ngannou, knocking him out spectacularly in their March 2024 clash in Saudi Arabia. But despite his setback and being mocked by the entire boxing world, the Cameroonian was defiant, saying he would return to the sport since he felt it ‘owed him something’.
And with the PFL roster not being as strong as the UFC’s and Ngannou’s coach revealing he would fight only once a year in the PFL, it is quite possible that the Cameroonian returns to the boxing ring once again. And why not? After all, the purses in boxing are orders of magnitude higher than what he has made in MMA. What are your thoughts on Ngannou’s coach’s comments and where will we see him next?
