Joe Rogan’s special power is randomly talking about anything and sounding interesting. This time, he gave his dues to ‘Mighty Mouse’ for defeating the ‘Iron Man’ of Muay Thai. Back in March, Demetrious Johnson took on Rodtang Jitmuangnon and made him submit in the second round of the special rules fight. Recently, on an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, the UFC commentator praised Johnson for his gutsy move.

Somehow, the conversation went from UFOs to Donald Trump and then to the flyweight division. Brendan Schaub, a guest and fellow American podcaster, mentioned ‘Mighty Mouse,’ and the entire floor started singing Johnson’s praise. The American mixed-martial artist is a fearsome fighter with a record of 27-3-1 in the UFC alone but that wasn’t quite enough for him.

Most fight fans have seen that one video of Rodtang taking punches to the chin like they’re softballs being thrown at him. This is the man Johnson decided to fight in a special rules super-fight for ONE FC. The rules divided the four rounds into two equal parts: Muay Thai and MMA. The first round was a brutal barrage of strikes from the ‘Iron Man’ that Johnson somehow survived. That’s probably why Joe Rogan had nothing but high praise for ‘Mighty Mouse,’ who he called “the most beautiful expression of martial arts I’ve ever seen.”

“What a fu*king dope move of him to go over there and fight Rodtang,” Rogan said. “Fight Rodtang. One round. Just pure Muay Thai. So he has to survive for one round against one of the most frightening Muay Thai fighters of all time?”

How Johnson managed to survive the first round, no one knows. His chin and his head took multiple strikes in one capacity or another and yet, ‘Mighty Mouse’ stood tall. As soon as the format rules changed to MMA however, Johnson recognized his chance. Going to another round of Muay Thai could’ve gotten dangerous, so he had to close it then and there. The former MMA flyweight champion took down the Thai fighter with a rear-naked choke at 2:13 in the second round. No wonder Rogan had only good things to say about him.

” . . . he’s awesome. And he’s such a great guy” Joe reinstated smoking his trademark cigar as the guests mentioned the money he makes from streaming. “‘Mighty Mouse’ is the fu*king man.”

Rogan and guests recall Johnson’s godlike armbar transition

The group also reminisced about the mind-blowing armbar transition that Johnson pulled against Ray Borg after a five-round struggle. The insane submission will go down in history as one of the most impressive feats in the UFC ever. Here’s what the guests had to say about it:
