As Friend Dana White and Co. Face $4.8 Billion Lawsuit, Joe Rogan Supports Fighters Having “Options” Besides UFC While Heaping Praise on $1B Worth Competitor

According to its critics, The UFC and Dana White do not like talking about fighter pay. The promotion has long been accused of underpaying its fighters and is currently maneuvering its way in court after a class action anti-trust lawsuit on the topic ensued.

Moreover, the MMA promotion’s troubles may compound exponentially if the Anti-trust lawsuit against them is successful. It may have to pay a multi-billion dollar payout and further change how its contracts are structured going forward. Amid this lawsuit, Joe Rogan discussed rival promotion ONE Championship on the UFC 293 Fight Companion of the JRE.

Joe Rogan praises ONE Championship and its CEO Chatri Sityodtong

The UFC commentator stated that ONE Championship had some magnificent fighters on their roster and that it was good for fighters to have alternatives to the UFC. He pointed out former UFC flyweight champion and current ONE flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson, who left the UFC for ONE in 2018 after disputes over financials with the former. Rogan also commended ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong for his management of the Singapore-based promotion.

“ONE FC had some serious f***ing fighters and zero drug testing. But it’s better for the athletes to have options. Look at Mighty Mouse. He goes over to ONE FC and he’s a star. He makes bank. You know there’s a lot of guys have done that. I like it. And (ONE FC CEO) Chatri [Sityodtong] is a great guy to run it. He’s on top of it,” the Texas resident said.

Rogan further highlighted the caliber of talent ONE Championship possesses by praising former UFC Flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson.

Rogan told his guests that he doesn’t think flyweight and MMA GOAT contender Demetrious Johnson does not get the appreciation he deserves despite being one of the greatest martial artists of all time.

“It sucks that people don’t, like, appreciate them because they’re so small. Like [Mighty Mouse] never got his just dues. He’s the best like the most beautiful expression of martial arts I’ve ever seen. No he’s awesome. And he’s such a great guy. Mighty mouse is the f**king man.

‘Mighty Mouse’ yet again proved his greatness in his fight against Muay Thai maestro Rodtang at ONE Championship with mixed rules, where the first round was Muay Thai rules and switched to MMA rules in the subsequent rounds. The American’s mastery in all aspects of combat sports was on full display as Johnson won the fight via a rear naked choke hold in the second round. It is a shame he had to leave the UFC.
