Madison Square Garden has witnessed greatness in its long history. The coveted sporting venue has played host to Mohammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier. Further, it is also an annual stop on the UFC calendar, graced by the likes of Conor McGregor and Georges St-Pierre in the past. However, there was another amusing fight at the venue that seized headlines recently. Two NHL captains, Jacob Trouba and Brady Tkachuk, dropped the sticks and tried to settle scores with punches.

As expected, the heated brawl between the New York Rangers captain and his Ottawa Senators’ counterpart made waves on the internet. Eight months after throwing punches in the center of MSG, Tkachuk has opened up about his experience.

The American player appeared on the ‘Dropping The Gloves podcast’ hosted by John Scott and was asked about the fight that took place in December last year. Notably, the match between the Rangers and Senators stood at a critical junction, and suddenly, the fans caught visuals of two captains exchanging blows in the center. The heated sequence ended with Trouba taking down Tkachuk.

“What was it like fighting? Madison Square Garden’s Center, Center Ice?” Scott asked as he jumped straight to the viral moment. In response, the left winger admitted he felt like Conor McGregor. He said, “I’m not going to lie to you. I felt like [Conor] McGregor. I felt like it was a pretty unbelievable feel… Center stage of MSG. That was something I’ll never forget.”

However, Tkachuk had the last laugh as he scored the winning goal in extra time, and the Senators bagged the win by 3-2. While Tkachuk lived his McGregor moment at the iconic location, the Irishman etched his name in history when he entered the arena in 2016.

The Irish fighter, already a featherweight champion, clinched the lightweight strap as he knocked out Alvarez. Thus, the victory made him the first fighter in promotion history to hold two simultaneous titles. Since then, the UFC has booked the arena in November every year. In 2023, Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic will headline the upcoming PPV at the arena.
