Famed NFL sportscaster and former coach John Madden recently passed away at the age of 85. Madden was the coach of the Oakland Raiders for 10 seasons and guided the franchise to a chip at Superbowl XI (1977). Not to mention, the Raiders always had a winning season under the Hall of Famer caliber coach turned award-winning broadcaster.

He passed away unexpectedly in the morning per the League and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell issued a statement of the passing of the legend.

“On behalf of the entire NFL family, we extend our condolences to (wife) Virginia, (son) Mike, (Son) Joe and their families. We all know him as the Hall of Fame coach of the Oakland Raiders and broadcaster who worked for every major network, but more than anything, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.” [h/t CNN.com]

Moreover, several major sporting entities, including many UFC fighters and personalities, took to social media to share their condolences about Madden’s passing.

UFC President Dana White, who was moved by Madden’s death, shared a picture of the Emmy award-winning color commentator. The long-time boss of the UFC has always been a fanatic of the NFL and is known to be a huge Tom Brady supporter.

Another notable UFC icon, who is also an NFL fan in Daniel Cormier, took to social media and commented on Madden’s passing. Cormier famously supports the New Orleans Saints.

Many former and current UFC fighters took to their Twitter timeline to react to the death of John Madden.

MMA commentators Brendan Fitzgerald and Karyn Bryant also penned down comprehensive reflective posts of John Madden’s life and career. Bryant went on to mention how Madden was truly synonymous with football to all fans.

UFC presenter Megan Olivi also revealed that she was heartbroken when she received the news of Madden’s unexpected demise.
