Overwhelming honesty is what Chael Sonnen, Joe Rogan, and Donald Cerrone have. But even then apparently, Dana White would not sign Cerrone to the UFC again. Why? Like most retired MMA fighters, Cerrone has continued to train and wants to test his skills once more inside the octagon. The only problem is that ‘Cowboy’ has ‘honestly’ confessed to taking PEDs to allow his physique to become more youthful.
Now ‘The American Gangster’ has come forward saying that blunt honesty is not something that will convince Dana White to open doors for the UFC Hall of Famer to grace the octagon yet again. Let’s see what Sonnen had to say.
Chael Sonnen says that Dana White will not agree to Cerrone’s comeback

Donald Cerrone initially retired in 2022 after suffering a guillotine choke from Jim Miller, marking his sixth loss in his last seven fights. However, after this, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame for a stellar UFC career. However, the fighter instinct in the lightweight has once again come to the surface and he looks to make a comeback.
This is because ‘Cowboy’ is looking to conquer an elusive record as he intends to fight at least on two separate occasions and in turn, increase his total MMA fight tally to 50. This announcement has caught the attention of Dana White, but he seems to have a different opinion. The same emotion was echoed by Chael Sonnen who admitted that the UFC CEO would not agree to this.
In his latest YouTube video, the ex-UFC star said, “For the optics alone, for that statement alone, there is zero chance that Dana White would sign off on that and I mean zero. I don’t mean to ruin Cowboy’s fun but it was essentially a ridiculous statement and I think he was partly kidding. I don’t wanna be the one that comes out and tells him hey man this road is over.”
Sonnen also pointed out that even if Cerrone stops his PED usage and is ‘clean’, it is not enough for a contract. He said, “But that statement cannot go together. There will never be a time when Dana then puts a contract in front of that and goes ‘You know he is clean now got a testing procedure and you know we’ve taken these things into account.’ And it does not matter how many guys will go into retirement, do that very thing but never say it and come back. It does not matter what this one guy said. I am just sharing with you that won’t happen.”

White did say during the DWCS post-fight presser that he loves Donald Cerrone but hates his comeback idea. This is especially because he does not want the 41-year-old to get beaten up at this age again even if he wins the match. This remark not only brought an opinion out of Sonnen but also irked former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub.
Brendan Schaub speaks out on Donald Cerrone and his comeback
Former UFC heavyweight star Brendan Schaub spoke about this in ‘The Fighter and the Kid,’ alongside co-host Bryan Callen. During the podcast, when asked about Dana White’s remarks on Cerrone’s potential comeback, where White stated, “They retire because they know it’s over. They know it is,” Schaub strongly disagreed.

Schaub criticized the boss and the UFC for pushing athletes into retirement even when they wanted to continue. Schaub said, “It’s not over though, if you give them the right matchups. That’s my issue with the UFC. Nick Diaz shouldn’t be fighting Vicente Luque, who’s ranked number 14. He should be fighting Tony Ferguson.”
He even spoke about the disparity in age between Stephen Thompson who is 41 and his much younger opponents like Shavkat Rakhmonov and Belal Muhammad. On top of that, Donald Cerrone is White’s favorite and maybe this is why the boss said that he would look for an alternative (if his return is motivated by financial means) for him rather than making him return to the cage.
