One of the best featherweight fighters in the world, Zabit Magomedsharipov, is allegedly thinking about retirement. The Russian fighter has been a mainstay in the UFC’s featherweight division since 2017 and has been a professional MMA fighter since 2012.

‘ZaBeast’ last fought against Calvin Kattar at UFC Fight Night: Magomedsharipov vs. Kattar and won the fight via unanimous decision. That fight was back in 2019 and since then we haven’t seen the fighter back in action. Now, though, Igor Lazorin shared a post talking about Magomedsharipov and how the fighter is planning retirement.

Lazorin wrote, “I spoke with close people of Zabit to understand how things are going. They say that Zabit is very likely to end his career and will not fight again.”

Zabit Magomedsharipov competed regularly since joining the UFC, although, after 2019, the fighter hasn’t been linked to any potential fight. “Long time without fights, no motivation, Zabit is tired of fighting – that’s what they say.”

Although Lazorin has talked to people close to the fighter. Magomedsharipov hasn’t himself yet announced anything. “We are waiting for what Zabit himself will say.” wrote Lazorin.

The former ACB Featherweight champion is an expert in Sanda, Wushu, Taekwondo, and Freestyle wrestling, and that could be something he could fall back on. Although, it seems unlikely that the fighter will quit MMA altogether and we might see him competing in some platform in the near future.

The fighter’s retirement news comes unexpectedly as he was on his way to get a title shot in the near future. Therefore, this retirement news and his removal from the UFC rankings seem a bit strange. Magomedsharipov is relatively young and it would be interesting to see what the fighter does if he decides to retire.

What do you think, could Magomedsharipov’s removal from UFC rankings and his retirement talks be related, or will we see the fighter back in action soon?
