The UFC heavyweight division has been in quite a pickle in recent times. UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones was set to take on Stipe Miocic for the UFC heavyweight strap. However, due to an accident that sidelined the heavyweight champion, the bout was scrapped, and UFC heavyweights Tom Aspinall and Sergei Pavlovich headlined the co-main event for the UFC interim title at UFC 295. However, this has left the UFC heavyweight division in quite a difficult position.

In most cases, it would be quite simple to resolve the issue of having two champions in a division. A simple unification bout. However, with Stipe Miocic in the picture as the main target fight for Jon Jones’ return, it leaves the new interim champion, Tom Aspinall, the odd man out of the situation.

True Geordie, in a recent podcast with guest Tom Aspinall, covered the whole heavyweight title problem. Geordie seemed to be frustrated with the UFC and Dana White over the heavyweight landscape in the past few months. He stated, “I’m surprised that Dana, especially because of the slating of boxing and like now we like kind of now doing worse than boxing.”

He went in to berate the UFC for the special treatment ‘Stone Cold’ was getting, debating that no fighter, including the likes of Chuck Lidell, got while they competed in the UFC. Geordie blasted the UFC for giving Miocic a title shot while not accepting to fight Pavlovich or Aspinall. He stated, “You’re fighting killers. There is no exceptions… So to now sit there and protect Stipe. For Stipe that would deny a fight with Pavlovich, for Stipe to deny a fight with you (Aspinall) and to still get the title shot.”

The podcast host gives props to Miocic for having a successful career, saying, “I understand who Stipe is you know. He’s done well for the UFC” but believes that the 41-year-old shouldn’t be getting “brownie points”. “we’re here to find out the best is. this ain’t WWE. it’s frustrating for the fans” says Geordie, comparing the move to WWE’s.

It’s quite unclear where the UFC is headed with the heavyweight division. However, one thing we are certain of is that the UFC interim heavyweight champion is frustrated with the current scenario of the UFC heavyweight division.

Ever since Aspinall won the UFC interim gold, he has been on a mission to try and unify the heavyweight championships. Aspinall shared his opinion in an interview with TNT Sports, that it is not right to have two heavyweight champions in the world. So he claims that his main goal as an interim champion is to fight Jon Jones to find out who the “best guy” in the division is.

However, since Jones is out with an injury, Aspinall believes that the fight that makes the most sense is between him and Stipe Miocic. Aspinall believes that a win over either of those would look incredible on his resume, which is why the UFC interim heavyweight champion is pushing hard for the fight.
