“The real question is – his contract with the UFC. The only way for him to get that fight is they’ve got to allow it,” questioned Big John McCarthy as he is worried about Conor McGregor fighting Logan Paul in an exhibition boxing match in India, despite having two fights remaining on his UFC contract. The veteran MMA referee believes that it would be immensely difficult for the former UFC champ to fight the older Paul brother for his comeback fight. Nevertheless, according to UFC insider, Chael Sonnen, it is very much possible.

While having a conversation with his audience on his YouTube channel, ‘The American Gangster’ weighed in on the topic of exclusive contracts, stating that Conor McGregor can fight even though the UFC has a contract with him, “There is talk of exclusivity within contracts, of which there is none. Well, I tell you there’s none, and you tell me you know there is and you’ve heard from lawyers. I calmly stand back and let you know that no lawyer gets to figure out the law any more than you do—only a judge can do that,” said Sonnen.

Chael Sonnen believes that an individual can render the contract void. Once an individual declares in front of the public that he would violate the terms of the contract, the agreement is effectively nullified. He further added that being under the contract doesn’t necessarily mean that one should do what the clauses say.

“Having an exclusive contract with somebody doesn’t mean that you own that person like a slave. It means that you have some very exclusive obligations to that person as well. So, if you were to come out publicly and say you’re not going to use them, you no longer have a contract. Not to mention, that contract would never hold up anyway,” said Sonnen.

In the end, the UFC insider argues that no promoter in the world believes in the exclusivity of the contract. “There is no promoter that believes they have an exclusive contract with anybody. They know that they have a clause, and they know that no manager, no lawyer, no fighter, and no other promoter in the history of time has ever actually challenged it,” said Sonnen.

The Irishman has announced his comeback to the combat world. However, there has yet to be any official confirmation on the topic. Interestingly, on the other hand, Sonnen talks about the fight potentially having no speed bumps, though he believes that the fight might not materialize.

Chael Sonnen has doubts about Conor McGregor vs. Logan Paul boxing endeavor

According to certain reports, Conor McGregor and Logan Paul would bag a massive $250 million each just for fighting at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, India, in April. However, nothing has been made certain as of now. Chael Sonnen believes that the fight might never take place in the first place, “Not a single word is true,” said Sonnen.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Conor McGregor's rumored fight with Logan Paul just a publicity stunt or a real possibility?

Have an interesting take?

He further added, “You’ve got to understand, Conor is not boxing (Logan) Paul. There is not a billionaire in India looking to bring people over and change tourism. That is something exclusively done by a government and that government has done it in one place which is in the Middle East. And third, there’s no cheque for $250 million dollars so, he kind of went right down the list of joking. He’s kidding. You’re not supposed to believe any of that to be true.”

Well, no confirmation has come to light about the fight. Even if Conor McGregor specifically announces the clash, a big question mark surrounds the bout. It remains to be seen if Dana White would allow his cash cow to make a comeback in boxing. Regardless, what’s your take on the hubbub? State your thoughts in the comments below.
