It’s been over a month since Sean O’Malley dethroned Aljamain Sterling as the new UFC Bantamweight world champ. But it seems like the repulsion of defeat still lingers on ‘Aljo’s mind. Why? Well, over the last couple of weeks, the former Bantamweight champ has made numerous accusations and call-outs to ‘Sugar.’

Now, Sterling’s recent victory over a UFC legend has him eyeing his yet again. ‘The Funkmaster’ recently engaged in a BJJ competition, and to the delight of his fans, he lasted the entire 10-minute contest, eventually emerging as a winner. And in the aftermath of this win, ‘Aljo’ took to his unruly ways – calling ‘Suga’ out with a bold jibe yet again!

Aljamain Sterling recently competed in the esteemed Polaris 25 grappling event. He faced former UFC featherweight veteran and freestyle wrestler Mike Grundy, for a ten-minute BJJ contest. After a tenacious scramble, ‘Aljo’ appeared victorious, marking his return to winning ways following his title fight loss to Sean O’Malley at UFC 292.

But instead of relishing the victory, Sterling swiftly turned his attention back to Sean O’Malley, sending a strong and direct message to the new UFC Bantamweight champion. “I got a message for Mr. Suga T*** because he’s still that to me,” Sterling declared to the crowd in Wales. “Hey, give me my rematch or fight Merab [Dvalishvili]. It’s that simple.”

What’s more – he urged ‘Sugar’ to take on the top guns in the fight game, instead of eyeing his own choice of opponents. “Stop ducking the top contenders and be a man and be a real champion. Fight the best of the best. That’s what I did, and now you need to turn around and do the same exact s***. Let’s go,” declared Sterling.

A tale of Aljamain Sterling’s demands to ‘Sugar’

Ever since suffering a second-round TKO loss to O’Malley, Sterling has been vocal about wanting a rematch. He’s determined to reclaim the title and make history by setting the record for the most bantamweight title defenses in UFC history, with three consecutive defenses.

If Sterling doesn’t get an immediate rematch, he has another name in mind–his teammate and friend Merab Dvalishvili. Dvalishvili boasts an impressive nine-fight win streak in the division, including recent victories over former UFC champ Petr Yan and Jose Aldo.

Meanwhile, O’Malley has been seeking a rematch of his own against Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera, the only fighter to hand him a loss back in 2020. While ‘Sugar’ has pushed for a December rematch, the year-end UFC 296 card already features two title fights. As a result, the new bantamweight king may need to wait until 2024 to step back into the Octagon.

Sterling’s message is clear: He’s not backing down and wants another shot at the championship, whether it’s against O’Malley or his teammate, Dvalishvili. The ball is now in O’Malley’s court to respond to ‘Aljo’s’ fiery challenge.
