According to many, Gordon Ryan is one of the all-time greatest jiu-jitsu practitioners. He was just five years old when he started learning Jiu-Jitsu. He was born on July 8, 1995, in New Jersey. Ryan has mastered an unmatched set of grappling techniques over the years, winning some of the most prestigious Jiu-Jitsu competitions worldwide. Appearing in a podcast with Brendan Schaub, Ryan was compared to the golf GOAT Tiger Woods.

Brendan Schaub, a former UFC fighter is a well-known comedian, podcast host, and commentator. He is renowned for his enthusiasm for Jiu-Jitsu as well as his love of martial arts. Gordon Ryan and Schaub talked about their experiences in the Jiu-Jitsu sport in a recent episode of the “Food Truck Diaries.”

Ryan Being The “Tiger Woods” Of Jiu Jitsu

During the conversation, Schaub praised Ryan‘s dominance in the sport, saying “It’s clear how dominant you are”. Then Schaub went on to compare Ryan with many other sporting legends. “Golf was dead for how many years? And then Tiger comes down and he is just dominating. He has a certain look, and he is electrifying. It gravitated more of the general fans over so you are kind of like Tiger Woods of Jiu-Jitsu,” Schaub said.

In reply to this, Ryan also had an interesting point to make. “You need a Tiger Woods, a Tony Hawks, you need a Michael Jordan. You need at least that one guy in the sport that transcends and pushes the sport further. The athlete goes further than the sport is supposed to,” said the MMA legend.

This was an enormous compliment, considering the fact that Tiger Woods is considered one of the greatest golfers of all time and has achieved a level of dominance in his sport that is rarely seen.

Gordon Ryan’s Achievements

One cannot raise a finger at Brendan Schaub for comparing Gordon Ryan with Tiger Woods or Michael Jordan. Ryan has a long and impressive list of accomplishments. He has won numerous gold medals at events like the ADCC, the No-Gi World Championships, and the IBJJF World Championships. Ryan won the ADCC and the IBJJF World Championships in the same year in 2019, making history as the first athlete to do so in more than a decade.

Ryan has also established himself in the world of submission grappling. Fans and peers alike respect him because of his dominance in the sport. Brendan Schaub and others have praised Ryan, and it is apparent that fans will remember his contributions to the sport for a long time.
