The debate between Dricus du Plessis and Israel Adesanya does not seem to be ending anytime soon. The rivalry between the two UFC middleweights began when ‘Stillknocks’ claimed that Adesanya is not a true African as he is living and training somewhere else. This infuriated ‘Stylebender’ like never before. Adesanya has always loved being known as a Nigerian fighter whose roots lie deep in Africa. However, du Plessis believes that even though Adesanya became the UFC middleweight champion twice, the belt never came to Africa. According to him, he is the only true African in the world’s biggest MMA promotion as he trains and lives in Africa. Moreover, he claims that if he wins a belt, it will surely reach the continent.
The feud between the two reached a boiling point, and Ariel Helwani stepped in. Helwani is notorious among the MMA community for adding fuel to fights outside the Octagon. Helwani tried to bring racism into the issue. This led to du Plessis’ coach Morne Visser coming forward to lash out against Helwani for making things complicated between the two fighters.

You are very big on trying to provoke the fighters and trying to stir s*it up. You have tried your best with down running my fighter Dricus Du Plessis with your bulls*it racism comments. When Stillknocks went to Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour, the journalist asked if the beef between him and Adesanya was about color. After listening to Helwani, du Plessis immediately silenced him by saying that it was never the case. ‘Stillknocks’ further mentioned how he hated it when people tried to bring color into the debate.

At the moment, du Plessis stands way too close to a title shot. He is training hard to lock horns against the former UFC middleweight champion, Robert Whittaker. The bout between the two at UFC 290 is expected to blow the roof off the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The UFC middleweight champion has already mentioned that he wants to fight the 19-2 record holder next. Adesanya is also eagerly waiting to answer Dricus Du Plessis inside the Octagon for questioning his African identity. Do you think that du Plessis will win UFC 290 and face Israel Adesanya?
