Eagle Fighting Championship owner, Khabib Nurmagomedov, posted an emotional note for his friend and former mentor, Shamil Zavurov, who fought his last battle on September 17 at the Eagle Fighting Championship 40 event.

Zavurov fought his last fight against Nariman Abbasov. However, he lost the bout and retired from combat sports. Nurmagomedov took to social media to share his thoughts on Zavurov’s retirement.

The 32-year-old wrote, “Thank you Brother for everything. You have always been there and my development as a person and success in sports is directly related to you. Alhamdulillah, that Allah surrounded me with many worthy people who later influenced me positively and are of great importance in my life because the environment is of great importance, but you were in the first place along with the Father.”

He added, “Head up because everything is just beginning. Alhamdulillah in any position. I sincerely congratulate Nariman Abbasov, this is sport and the most important thing is respect, good luck to you, brother, you and your team are very worthy people and I will always be glad to help you if you need my help, may the Almighty take care of you all. @shamilzavurov” (translated from Russian to English via Instagram)

‘The Eagle’ has praised Zavurov for his growth quite a few times. Moreover, akin to how he has been helping his teammates, Nurmagomedov even helped Zavurov prepare for the last fight of his career.

Khabib Nurmagomedov as a Coach

The 29-0 record holder, Khabib Nurmagomedov, retired from professional fighting after his last fight against Justin Gaethje at UFC 254. However, he has not his talents go to waste as he has been an able mentor to his AKA teammates and family members.

Moreover, the Dagestan native is building a perfect coaching record akin to his MMA record. The latter coached his cousins, Umar and Abubakar Nurmagomedov in 2021. Both the fighters won their respective fights.

‘The Eagle’ also trained the lightweight fighter, Islam Makhachev, for his two fights in 2021. Makhachev won both his fights in style and helped ‘The Eagle’ go 4-0 as a coach.
