Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones took to Twitter to take a dig at Jake Hager for allegedly ducking a grappling match with him. Early in November, Jones announced on his Twitter that he would be taking on undefeated Bellator heavyweight and current AEW star Jake Hager in a grappling match. Hager responded to Jones’ tweet saying that no terms have been discussed or contract signed.

Jones took to Twitter to announce that Hager turned down the match in a tweet. He said, “You can’t gloat about turning down a grappling match with the goat. You had the opportunity of a lifetime, now you’re doing interviews about what you would’ve done.”

This statement was in response to claims Hager made on the Throwing Down w/ Renee and Miesha podcast. Hager said, “Well, I don’t know what’s going on, because I’m training and I’m ready. As far as I know, it’s on. And then it got quiet on his end,”

Hager further went on to take a dig at Jones, saying, “Maybe he saw I wrestled for AEW and he got a little scared.” Jones has in the past talked about not getting paid enough by the UFC. He also said in prior interviews that at this stage in his career, he is looking for the biggest fights he can get, to make maximum money.

Hager is of the opinion that Jones wants a job at AEW. Pro wrestling is a massive business where a lot of money can be made for a star like Jones.

Elaborating on this, Hager said, “Everybody wants to work for AEW, so maybe he wants to get a job. Jon, come out of hiding. Prove that you’re still the GOAT, and I’ll put in a good word with Tony for you. I work with GOATs every single day, Jon. I work with the GOAT of pro wrestling Chris Jericho. So I’m like the farmer of GOATs, and I can also wrestle a little.”
