UFC star Max Holloway might follow in his rival Alexander Volkanovski’s footsteps and move up to lightweight if favorable circumstances pop up. The former lightweight, who squares off against Arnold Allen on the upcoming Saturday night at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, is at a crossroads in his career. While he firmly maintains his top contender’s spot, he fails to surmount the Australian champion. After a thumping third loss against ‘The Great’ last year, the Hawaiian fighter’s chances at another title shot are rather slim. ‘Blessed’ therefore finds himself in a tight spot when he has years of fighting left in his tank.

In addition, the prospect of exciting matchups at 155 lbs. might entice the 31-year-old. The lightweight division is not alien territory for the American fighter, as he has previously fought and challenged Dustin Poirier for the interim title in 2019. However, he prefers if he has a gold belt wrapped around his waist when he realizes the move.

Thus, he said, “It’s always tempting to go there, you know. You got killers up there and those fights excite me. And you know, we see what happens; you know.”

“But it’s always great to go up a weight class when you got a belt on your waist so we’ll see what happens,” he added later on.

Following this, the 23-7 record holder put forth he has the competence to fight with the best. Further, he suggested he could even compete at 185 lbs and heavyweight. He contended every champion and top-5 fighter held the same belief.

In the same segment, the Honolulu native disclosed the fans want him to exchange blows in the lightweight ever since his fight with ‘Diamond’.

Thus, he summed up, “People keep wanting me to see up there. So we see what happens, you know. Never say never.”
