Recently, Aljamain Sterling faced a huge setback in his UFC journey. After triumphing over Petr Yan at UFC 259, the 34-year-old became the bantamweight kingpin. ‘Funk Master’ held onto his championship belt through three successful defenses. However, the tables turned when he squared off with Sean O’Malley at UFC 292. ‘Funk Master’ lost his bantamweight title to O’Malley, following a second-round knockout. Now, UFC bantamweight star Marlon Vera has come forward to explain the one grave mistake made by Sterling.

During the first round of their bout, many believed that Sterling was going to emerge victorious as he threw some perfect combinations of high and low kicks. Whereas O’Malley stuck to perfect strikes along with some shallow moves. However, when the bout reached the second round, things turned totally in favor of the 28-year-old. Recently, Marlon Vera sat down with InsideFighting. During the conversation, he gave his take on the bout between Sterling and O’Malley. However, he believes that if Sterling had avoided one mistake, the bout would not have ended so soon in favor of ‘Suga’. He said, “I mean, he did great. He defended more than anybody. Maybe but I don’t think he will be ready in December. I mean, we’re going to stop in the second round and he was rushing it too much. He was rushed like that in fight.

He further added, “Anybody that term you got caught, that’s an excuse you get knocked the f*ck out. You’re done, but if you rushed like that, you will get punched in the face because these two forces coming in at the same time.”Later, ‘Chito’ added that Sterling was not able to calculate the move of O’Malley. However, he believed that if he himself were in Sterling’s place, he would avoid the mistake.

‘Chito’ mocks Sean O’Malley’s decision

Sean O’Malley faced the only loss of his fighting career at UFC 252, where he fought against Marlon Vera. After becoming the new bantamweight champion, O’Malley soon called out ‘Chito, as he believed that it was finally time to take revenge. Later, he showed an interest in going to a boxing match against Gervonta Davis. Vera recently detailed his take on O’Malley’s potential fight against the boxing star.

He said, “I mean, that’s a big bag of cash, you know? Yeah, okay, I mean, but this is truly from sports.” He accepted the fact that there is a lot of money involved when a UFC champion fights against a great boxer. However, he feels that the two sports are totally different from each other, and O’Malley would find it difficult to survive in the ring against Davis.
