Ever since UFC 284, Alexander Volkanovski has been the subject of many conversations. The man from Down Under exceeded expectations in his fight against Islam Makhachev. Although he fell short in his attempt to capture the UFC lightweight belt, Volkanovski proved to the world why he is “The Great.”
The 34-year-old thwarted Makhachev’s famed Dagestani grappling on multiple occasions, earning several commendations from the MMA community after the fight. Now another UFC champion has made a bold claim regarding Alexander Volkanovski.

UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling had an opinion on how a fight between himself and Volkanovski would go. ‘Funkmaster’ is a wrestling-heavy fighter himself and has impressive submission wins on his resume. Therefore, he gave himself a good chance against the heavier champion.
Aljamain Sterling’s claim about Alexander Volkanovski
Sterling recently took to Twitter to answer a fan’s query about a fight between himself and Volkanovski. The fan asked Sterling if he thought he could submit Volkanovski. The champion’s reply was a confident yes with due credit given to Volkanovski’s skills.
Sterling’s response read, “If I rolled with Volk, I 100% think I’d sub him 1-2x. Not saying it’ll be easy anymore. He does his homework, but I believe I’d get him.”

In the Octagon interview, Makhachev himself gave credit to Volkanovski’s preparation for grappling exchanges. The work that went into preparing for the combat sambo champion was evident in the fight.
The featherweight champion was able to get up several times after Makhachev took him down. He was able to fend off submission attempts from the back and even attempted takedowns himself.

Therefore, several fans begged to differ from Sterling’s claim. ‘Funkmaster’ had received some backlash last month for calling out Volkanovski while bantamweight contenders were waiting for a title shot.
