Ever since his rise in popularity, Joe Rogan‘s social commentary has held its own weight. The UFC analyst discusses relevant contemporary issues on his podcast with a diverse range of guests. In a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, he took up the issues prevailing in Hollywood and how celebrities sometimes lose sight of reality.

As an example, he called back to the infamous Will SmithChris Rock moment from the 94th Academy awards. The veteran actor shocked everyone when he walked on the stage and slapped Rock for a harmless joke about his wife.

In episode #1915 of JRE, Rogan took a look back at the issue and shared his thoughts on the matter with his guest, Brian Simpson.

Joe Rogan said Will Smith lost control

Joe Rogan opined that Will Smith lost control at the Oscars last year. The 55-year-old suggested that Smith probably had never been in a similar position ever before in his life. The JRE host said, “Not just that he lost control. He did it publicly. He showed his a** in front of the whole world and he was humiliated by it. Everybody was mad about it.”

The former ‘Fear Factor’ host continued, “You can tell that he had lost his mind because he was yelling ‘keep my wife’s name out of your f***ing mouth.'”

Rogan also mentioned how Smith had to realize the gravity of the situation and his actions- “That this was on television and the Academy Awards and he was scheduled to win an Oscar and he’s like ‘Am I still winning this f***ing Oscar?'”

Traumatic as it may have been, the moment only served to motivate Chris Rock, according to Rogan. During a podcast episode last year, the BJJ black belt explained how the Oscar moment may have helped Chris Rock’s career.

Rogan on how the slap motivated Chris Rock

After ‘The Slap Heard Around the World,’ Chris Rock has been in a tremendous form in his comedy specials. The comedian used the infamous incident as material for his show and even admitted the slap hurt him. Rogan once said that the slap is what reignited Rock and set him on his successful comedy run.

During a conversation with music producer Rick Rubin, Rogan gave props to Rock’s talent and work ethic as a comedian. He also said, “He’s on fire right now. Will Smith, slapping him, I think, woke up… I mean, I haven’t talked to him about this.” 

Rogan also mentioned how watching people applaud for Smith the very same evening that he slapped him “…just fired up that ‘f*ck you’ furnace.”
