Sean Strickland went from being opaque to translucent and is now finally transparent. He is by far one of the only few fighters in the UFC that speaks his mind no matter what. This includes controversial opinions, facts, or even things that make little sense in a social norm.

The idea of being seen as a controversial individual who may face backlash does not seem to faze him. Every time he’s on a camera, things are either wildly entertaining or shrouded in controversy. Either way, Strickland does not care, and he remains steadfast when it comes to what he wants to say.

Strickland subjected himself to public backlash after berating Khalil Rountree for crying after his win at UFC Vegas 50. Not only the general social media users of the MMA community but also his fans as well criticized the middleweight.

Is Strickland a torchbearer for masculinity?

In an interview with Helen Yee, Strickland had to say about his criticism following his comments about Rountree crying.

All my fans got a little bu**hurt because I made fun of men crying? So after that, like I notice, it was like ‘Sean we like you!’ and I was like ‘Hey men listen, if you cry, you’re kind of a bi***. I’m not saying you can’t f****** cry. There’s occasions you can cry. You can cry if a dog dies, maybe your mother? If she dies. Maybe in private when nobody’s around? But other than your dog f***** dying, if you’re crying, like, it’s not good dude…”

He continued, “You should go like look yourself in the mirror and say, ‘Hey, stop being a f****** p*****. I need to man up and contain my s***. So anyway, after I made fun of Khalil Rountree for being an emotional little p****, I really I got a lot of hate from my fans. And you guys, I expected more from you. I expected you gonna have a f****** bigger harder di** than that… You disappointed me. But I still like you guys.

Sean Strickland acknowledged the criticism he’s received from his fans and is left disappointed by how they reacted. Nevertheless, Strickland is a man that remains steadfast in his beliefs and way of life and will continue to say and do the things that he wants to.
