Cejudo made sure to give Khabib Nurmagomedov his flowers as the Russian fighter is considered the pound-for-pound GOAT. The fact that he has barely lost a round in the cage, let alone a fight solidifies his greatness. Many fighters believe that Khabib Nurmagomedov can return at any point and challenge the current lightweight champion.
The lightweight division is spearheaded by Charles Oliveira who has the potential to be a massive star in the promotion. However, despite his heroics, Nurmagomedov’s shadow continues to loom over the lightweight division. It will be a long time before the MMA community truly decide to move on from Nurmagomedov’s historic title run.
However, the show must go on and the current breed of lightweight fighters look game to take over. The division has already produced some exciting fights in Nummagomedov’s absence and there are many more scraps in the pipeline. Despite it all, MMA fans will continue to hold out hope to see if ‘The Eagle’ will make a comeback to the cage.
