Combat sports is an unforgiving business where you are only as good as your last fight. Which is why most people remember Tyron Woodley or Ben Askren for being knocked out cold by Jake Paul. Woodley is one of the greatest welterweights in the UFC. Askren is arguably the greatest Bellator champion ever. But if you ask most MMA fans, he is the guy Jorge Masvidal KO’d in five seconds or the guy Paul knocked out cold.

In a recent appearance on the ‘Jaxxon Podcast’, Tyron Woodley opens up on what kept him from being more popular and having a better reputation. And one major reason was fighters not wanting to fight him, especially the top stars of the company.

In his conversation with former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson, Tyron Woodley was regretful of the fact that he did not get to fight the big names and moneymakers in the UFC like Georges St-Pierre, the Diaz brothers, or Michael Bisping. This seems to be an explanation for why he was called out by Dana White as not attracting enough eyeballs to his fights, which Woodley is still mad about as he told ‘Rampage’ in another part of the interview.

“I didn’t get the super fights, I didn’t get Georges, I didn’t get the Diaz, I didn’t get Bisping. I didn’t get um you know I mean any of those fights that would have been a good, you know, business partner to do some pay-per-views,” the former UFC welterweight champion said. He also pointed out that this was not just his wish. Before name-dropping another significant fighter, he said how the UFC wanted these fights too.

Woodley continued on that note and added Conor McGregor‘s name to the list of people who dodged him. He stated that the UFC was interested in making all those fights and even had talks with the fighters. But none of them agreed to fight him, according to the former welterweight champion.

“Those fights were all on the table, by the way, every last one of them. They were flown into the office many times from out of the country – Conor McGregor and George – nobody wanted that fight,” Woodley said.

He also said that the only reason he might return to the UFC was to beat Israel Adesanya. According to him, the Kiwi rubbed him the wrong way. Woodley, in his prime, was the boogeyman of the welterweight division. He was unbeaten for ten years while fighting the best in the division. Which is why many do not doubt the veracity of his claims.
