Francis Ngannou‘s upcoming boxing match against Tyson Fury on October 28 in Saudi Arabia is a foregone affair for man. Ngannou had expressed his intent to fight Fury since before he left the UFC. The hype for the fight started building after Fury called Ngannou out from the ring after defeating Dillian Whyte last year.

The two will face off in a ten-round boxing match under the official Queensberry Rules of boxing. But Tyson’s WBC championship belt, however, will not be on the line. The bout will determine who is ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’. And Ngannou’s former coach Fernand Lopez talked about the fight in an interview with ‘MMA Junkie’.

Despite parting on bad terms in 2018, Francis Ngannou’s former coach Lopez heaped praise on the Cameroonian. He stated that Ngannou was a fighter and had the ability to prevail despite overwhelming odds against him. He felt that his former pupil was already a winner since he has the opportunity to box the heavyweight champion of the world.

“He’s a fighter inside the cage and out of the cage. He’s a fighter. [He] always find his way to make it and uh and no matter [the result, to] do the sport, result is already a winner. When you come from nothing… And when you have the right to fight the most dangerous fighter in boxing in another sport without having even a single boxing fight, then you made it, you’re a champ. You won already,” he told the reporter.

“There’s a small slight part of a chance, if you have that chance to hit the chin when he’s fresh, you might just shock the world, who knows? So I don’t say [Ngannou has] zero chance,” he said. “That’s very good move, and then good luck for him,” he added.

Most analysts are not giving Ngannou a chance against Fury. But, as Lopez points out, he has a knack for taking on seemingly impossible odds and prevailing. This is what made him go from the salt mines of Cameroon as a teenager to being the UFC heavyweight champion. And, he might just surprise everyone again.
