However, Rogan has other connections to the MMA world as well. The 55-year-old has vast technical knowledge about every move fighters use in the sport. Rogan’s commentary stands out from the rest as the JRE podcaster adds the intricate details of a fighter’s move.

Anyone who listened to Rogan speaking about the sport might have wondered how Rogan learned so much about a sport where he had never been a fighter. The answer is simple: Rogan has trained himself in MMA, and he is a BJJ black belt.

Rogan began his MMA training as a teenager. The former Fear Factor host felt that it was important to know self-defense, and it was under Jean-Jacques Machado, Rogan began his BJJ training. The UFC commentator also received his black belt under Jacques Machado. At the moment, Rogan talks about his dear coach, who has helped him earn a black belt in BJJ.

Joe Rogan talks about his BJJ coach Jean Jacques Machado

 Joe Rogan was talking with retired Navy SEAL Andy Stumpf. During the conversation, they began to talk about taking training in combat sports. That’s when Rogan began to talk about his BJJ coach, Jean-Jacques Machado. The UFC commentator said, “Yeah that’s crazy… there is layers and layers and levels and levels, you know it’s funny. There is Jean Jacques Machado, he is talking to you the whole time ‘Joe Rogan come on my friend’”

Rogan further mentioned how his coach is always calm and composed. He detailed how Jacques Machado never gets tired after training. No, he is never breathing hard. Jean Jacques never breathes hard, never, never. Never seen him breathing hard. He is always relaxed and calm, no explosive movements. That’s also why he is fifty, and he can also roll backwards, no problem at all. No problem.” he added. Rogan indeed appreciates the strength and composure of his coach.

What led Rogan to the MMA world?

 In the 1871 episode of JRE, Rogan sat with Hollywood film producer Jon Peters. During their conversation, Rogan mentioned what led him to explore the MMA world. Rogan detailed how he was attacked by a boy in the boys’ bathroom when he was just fourteen. The boy trapped young Rogan in a headlock. The former Fear Factor host felt that the other boy might punch him in the face.

However, the boy dismissed Rogan by saying that there was no need to even punch someone as weak as Rogan. For the UFC commentator, that was the biggest humiliation he faced in his entire life. After that day, the comedian decided to pursue professional training in MMA. Suffice to say, it has worked out well for Rogan who has established his credentials in MMA among other ventures.
