Dana White prepared his “love letter,” the UFC 306 PPV, for the Mexican fans, with an obviously Mexican-heavy card at the Sphere. Those Mexican fighters list includes women’s strawweight contender, Yazmin Jauregui. It’s been a couple of years since the 25-year-old started competing under the UFC banner, and she’s relatively under the fans’ radar, but guess what? Jauregui boasts a stellar 11-1 record.
Yazmin Jauregui started her MMA career pretty young, as she turned pro in 2018 when she just turned an adult, at 18 years old, and it was obvious that she was going to leave her mark in the sport. As she steps up to fight Ketlen Souza this weekend, let’s try to explore what her early life was like.

Yazmin Jauregui is a native of Tijuana, Mexico, a city known for its culture, beaches, and food. The 25-year-old found herself getting exposed to martial arts at a very tender age, having started training on the mat for the first time when Jauregui was 14 years old. She’s Mexican by nationality and has a Hispanic heritage, but her hometown is home to a lot of other ethnic groups as well.

Some sources claim that her father was also a combat sports athlete, a wrestler, to be exact. Even her brother had a passion for combat sports. It was bound to push her in that direction, and so it did. Yazmin Jauregui kept stacking wins as she started with an impressive 10-fight winning streak until she suffered her first loss in the UFC last year.

Despite having the support of her family, the journey to the UFC was still a tough one for Yazmin Jauregui. Around the time that she went pro, the Tijuana native also stepped into a new and important role of being a mother.
How did the strawweight star enter the UFC?
Ahead of Yazmin Jauregui’s fight against Sam Hughes earlier this year, the 25-year-old revealed that she already had her son before even gaining professional experience in MMA. Fulfilling both roles wasn’t an easy task by any means, but the strawweight star’s unwavering discipline would help her get to the position she is in right now. Moreover, just like Jauregui, her son also seems to be surrounded by martial arts as he watches his mother train at the gym when he is just a baby.

“I was a young mother with no experience whatsoever, I was already in this sport… [at] 18-years-old when [my son] was born… I would wake up every day to run. He’d be in my arms when I went to the gym. I wasn’t economically stable, so I was always in taxis with my son, his backpack, and diaper bag, running everywhere. If it rained he would get wet, and it was a very hard experience to go through,” Yazmin Jauregui told the media.
Well, things ultimately worked out for Yazmin Jauregui as a fighter and a mother. But can she continue her winning ways this weekend? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
