The prospects of Michael Chandler facing Conor McGregor anytime soon are fading rapidly. Originally slated to face ‘The Notorious’ in December last year following their stints as rival TUF 31 head coaches, their bout has been postponed for an indefinite amount of time at the moment.
Despite McGregor having announced on New Year’s Eve that he will return to the octagon after over three years of inactivity to face Chandler on June 29 at UFC 302, this was quickly contradicted by UFC CEO Dana White, who has clarified in recent interviews that the Irishman, at best, may fight at the end of this year. However, this has not dampened Chandler’s resolve to face ‘Mystic Mac.’ He iterated this to none other than Ariel Helwani, as he discussed his recent appearance on WWE’s Monday Night RAW where he cut out a promo calling out McGregor.

Michael Chandler joined Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour Show on YouTube where he expressed his admiration for the WWE wrestlers and marveled at the punishment they were willing to put their bodies through. Chandler was especially struck by the grand entrances that the UFC stars came out to and the electrifying effect it had on the crowd.
Chandler voiced, “They [WWE athletes] don’t get enough credit, crazy athletes and a heck of a show. The UFC puts on a great show, the WWE man, I gotta say some of these guys walking out the entire crowd is chanting. They’re signing along…. It was a heck of a show man.”
He was so impressed that he turned to a UFC executive and requested that similar fireworks and pyrotechnics be incorporated into his next walkout to pump up the fans.
“Some of these guys walking out, the entire crowd is chanting, they’re singing along, they’ve got pyrotechnics… I was with Ozzy from the UFC [and]… I was like ‘hey, I want some pyrotechnics in my next fight, man I want some fireworks, I want some explosions, I want something cool, man’. So it was a heck of a show, man,” Chandler added. However, the 37-year-old may have to wait longer before he makes his next walkout.

Chandler seriously mulled moving on from Conor McGregor
Chandler admitted that while he was warned by Dana White that Conor McGregor would keep him on a short leash and make him want to quit, but he was determined to wait for the former two-division champion. “I knew what I signed up for. I will say that. And every month that goes by, I’m like, ‘Man, I didn’t know it was going to take this long,'” he said.

However, Chandler was willing to wait for McGregor, as he claimed that “Conor’s road back to the UFC goes through Nashville, Tennessee. He can’t go and fight anybody else.” The former Bellator champion, who has virtually put his career on hold over the past year waiting for McGregor was hopeful that the fight will happen “this summer” after UFC 300. However, given Dana White’s recent comments, this looks very unlikely at the moment.
