In her book ‘My Fight / Your Fight’, Rousey described how she could get “ready to fight at a moment’s notice”. She also stated that she had to hold her adrenaline back till the referee’s signal, unlike other fighters who often get cold under the pressure of a fight.
She also described a dreaded incident that happened right at the time of her birth. It could have easily taken her life, but Rousey fought her way to survival right from the initial moments of her existence.
Ronda Rousey was born in a nearly dead condition
Rousey stated how her parents expected a usual birth process for her. She stated that her father had replied, “Darlin’, I was born ready” when he was asked about the same by her mom. But events turned out to be quite on the opposite side of what ‘Rowdy’s would have expected. The Olympic medalist narrated how her mother said that “the doctors thought I was dead”.
Rousey also revealed, “I was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around my neck, cutting off my air supply.” She stated, “My heart stopped. I came out blue and listless”.
Rousey further explained, “On the 0-10 Apgar scale used to rate babies’ health at birth, seven is considered good. My score was a zero.” The situation was truly an alarming one.
‘The Arm Collector’ also described the hyperactivity at that moment, stating, “Everything was movement and chaos. Doctors running in from all directions. The squeaking wheel of metal carts carrying equipment into the room. Cabinets slamming as the medical staff pulled items off the shelves”. We may agree that the description given by her flashes right up before the eye of the readers.
It took a few minutes for Rousey to fight back to survival
Rousey has also written about how she was brought ‘back to life’ by the doctors and medical staff present at that juncture. She stated, “Eventually, the doctors managed to get some air. They cut the cord, unwrapped it from my neck, gave me baby CPR and oxygen”.
She also wrote how her mom would say that the time felt “as an eternity”, but actually, “it was probably closer to a few minutes”. Finally, Rousey “started breathing” and her heart “started beating”.
