Did Buckley's knockout of Thompson prove he's ready to take on Usman, or is it too soon?

Joaquin Buckley sent huge shockwaves through the world of mixed martial arts as he knocked Stephen Thompson out with a powerful fist in the third round of their bout at UFC 307. The entire Delta Center went into a frenzy of cheers as Buckley sent his opponent to the dream world. With this victory, ‘New Mansa’ went on a 5-fight win streak, and a highly possible chance of getting his way into the list of top 10 best welterweight fighters in the UFC.

The exchange of blows in the first round saw the scorecard tilt towards the ‘Wonderboy’. After all, he is known for his strong striking game. However, the tables turned in the second round when Buckley took control and dominated the Octagon with a takedown attempt following a scuffle near the fence. But it was the third round that sent cheers through the arena.

Following a brief exchange of strikes, ‘New Mansa’ exploded with his fists, and one right fist connected with his opponent’s chin. No wonder the ‘Wonderboy’ was out cold. Buckley put his hands up in the air as the referee concluded the fight, and later raised his hands.
