Since moving down to the featherweight division Edson Barboza has performed pretty well. Even after losing his featherweight debut fight against Dan Ige, the fighter came back strong with two back-to-back victories. Barboza’s latest win came against Shane Burgos at the UFC 262 event.
Since then, there has been much talk about who the fighter will face next. While many names have been thrown around, the one name which excites Barboza the most is Calvin Kattar. While that is a fight many people would like to see, recently Barboza talked about another possibility that might excite fans.
During a recent interview, Barboza was asked whether he would be willing to be the backup to the Max Holloway vs. Yair Rodriguez. To this Barboza answered, “It’s funny because my social media, people tagging me, they say, ‘Bro, keep ready. Stay ready, because I know Yair is gonna be out of the fight.”

While Barboza does say that he is training hard and can get ready to fight. He also hopes that everything remains good and the fight between Holloway and Rodriguez happens without any problem.
“But I hope he doesn’t pull out, I hope he has a good camp and fights Holloway. But like I said, I’m back to training and of course, I still have damage in my chin, my foot still hurts a little, very light to keep my weight down. And yeah, I don’t need much time to get 100% to fight.”
Why did Edson Barboza move to the Featherweight division?
Before his move to Featherweight, Barboza had lost 4 out of his last 5 five fights, the latest of which came against Paul Felder at the UFC 242 event. Many believe that Barboza’s consecutive losses and the fact that the lightweight division has such strong fighters are the reasons why Barboza moved down a weight class.

However, the fighter has claimed on many occasions that his move to featherweight is due to a different reason. Barboza said that his move to featherweight was because the lightweight division had become too boring.
Whatever the reason for Barboza’s move to the featherweight division maybe, the prospect of him fighting people like Holloway has enticed fans all around the world.
