UFC 286 saw Leon Edwards defeat Kamaru Usman to retain the UFC Welterweight championship. Against all odds, ‘Rocky’ has established himself as one of the top-notch fighters in the UFC. Following the win, Edwards must be on his toes as there will be no shortage of challengers that will be aiming to dethrone him. Also, it is pertinent to note that the Welterweight division is stacked with some of the top young talents and veterans of the game. Colby Covington is probably one of the biggest threats to Edwards’ championship.

Colby Covington has not kept it a secret that he wants a crack at ‘Rocky’ for the UFC Welterweight championship. However, the fans have given their take on a piece of news shared online.

Fans react to the news of Colby Covington potentially fighting Leon Edwards

The news of Colby Covington potentially taking on Leon Edwards for the UFC welterweight championship is creating stirs in the media. The fans have already taken sides and picked their winner out of the two welterweights.

One interesting piece of news involving the two was shared by Chamatkar Sandhu on Instagram. He shared the news with the caption, “Colby Covington opens up as the favourite in a UFC welterweight title fight against Leon Edwards”.

One fan wrote in the comments section, “Edwards beats Usman twice. Colby lost twice to Usman but Colby is favourite? Make it make sense”.

Another fan stated, “Won’t happen, Colby doesn’t deserve it.”

Similarly, an Instagram user added, “They always gonna sleep on Rocky. He’ll keep shocking people. It’s fun to watch when he does too”.

A fan added, “I love colby style but leon is a crazy strong king”.

Furthermore, a social media user wrote, “How tf in the world is this clown get a shot at the title”. 

One more fan said, “The guy who lost to Usman twice, hasn’t beat a top 10 ranked fighter, and has been inactive for a year and a half, is the favorite against the champ who beat Usman twice and is on a 12 fight win streak……”

Another one wrote, “I think Colby can win by decision and Leon can win by TKO”. A fan wrote, “Lmao this is wild”. 

Lastly, a fan stated, “Tough and close fight”.

Leon Edwards may have other plans for his next title defense

Leon Edwards disclosed who he would like to face as his next title defense. ‘Rocky’ revealed the name of Jorge Masvidal as his next opponent. However, he also mentioned that Masvidal may have to win against Gilbert Burns at UFC 287 to get a shot next. 

Edwards said, “Pay-per-view wise I’ll probably go with Masvidal. If he beats Burns, that’s the fight to make”. This will come as a snub to Colby Covington’s hopes of becoming the Welterweight champion.
