“Without Anybody Telling Me…”: Michael Jai White Once Confessed His Opinion on “Unbelievable” ‘Oppenheimer’ Star Cillian Murphy, After Working With Him in ‘The Dark Knight’ Back in 2008

It’s hard for fans to forget about Gambol from ‘The Dark Knight’. Michael Jai White, who played the role, believed that the character had so much to offer. Jai White is famous among the MMA community as a passionate MMA practitioner who has a deep respect for MMA fighters. However, he earned a big name as an actor and director. One of the biggest roles played by Jai White on screen is Gambol in the Christopher Nolan film. During the shoot of the movie, Jai White got to interact with actor Cillian Murphy. Murphy is currently grabbing the attention of cinephiles from all over the world with his performance in ‘Oppenheimer’. The magnum opus movie by Nolan is currently running successfully in theaters.

There was a time when Nolan, Murphy, and Jai White came together, and it was for ‘The Dark Knight’. In a six-year-old interview, Jai White became nostalgic about the time when he got to shoot with Murphy in 2008. Jai White detailed how the two actors shot some scenes together and later he said that Murphy is an “unbelievable guy.”

In a six-year-old interview with DJ Vlad that has come into prominence again, Michael Jai White talks about Murphy.  During the conversation, the ‘Tyson’ actor talked about his character, gangster Gambol. While shooting the movie, it was decided that the Gambol would play a significant role in future projects. However, when the movie was released, an ambiguous death scene for the character was shown. Jai White said that he shot more scenes in the movie; a few were with Cillian Murphy. Later, those were removed from the movie as the lead actor, Heath Ledger, passed away. While talking about Gambol, Jai White didn’t forget to shed some light on his love for Murphy.

He said, “When the editing process was going on and you know they found out we’ve lost Heath Ledger, I believe there are certain you know preservation of as much of his performance. I think that was kind of a mandate. I feel that’s the case without anybody telling me because I know that there were scenes with Cillian Murphy. He was on set. He shot things well, man that’s a good – I love that guy. You know the guy from peaky blinders. Unbelievable guy.”

According to Jai White, the ‘Peaky Blinders’ actor was an extremely good person. During the same interview, Jai White also mentioned that he understands the changes that happened to the film after Ledger’s death. He emphasized that the character Gambol had so much to perform according to the previous script and that he was not meant to die in the 2008 film.
