During a recent episode of the “Good Guy/Bad Guy” show, Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen touched up on a lot of topics. But probably the most controversial one among those was Sonnen claiming that Brock Lesnar should be inducted into the Hall of Fame. The reason was the hype that Lesnar generated for his rematch against Frank Mir at UFC 100, which had 1.6 million PPV sales.
Sonnen claimed that he couldn’t even imagine himself in that situation, saying, “Write on Pay Per View audience closing the night out after George St. Pierre after Dean Henderson after John Jones not for nothing. Brock didn’t quite have the experience to do this. He’d only have three or four opportunities to make that walk and compete. He’d already lost to Frank Mir, and it wasn’t overly competitive. The first time there was only about 16, or 17 months before this. I mean, if you think of everything that really was on Lesner’s shoulders that night.”
Sonnen explained that the heavyweight star’s confidence to go in and get the win was something to admire about the pro wrestler turned UFC champ. Lesnar’s dominance during the fight and his outstanding post-fight interview, for Sonnen, put Brock Lesnar in a league of his own, even claiming that he personally would put Brock Lesnar in the hall of fame. There were rumors surrounding “The Beast’s” return for UFC 300, however UFC CEO, Dana White was quick to shut any expectations down.
Throwback to when Dana White Dismissed Lesnar’s return for UFC 300
Before getting to know the fights for the anticipated UFC 300 event, fight fans were expecting to see the former UFC heavyweight champion make his return inside the UFC octagon. However, Lesnar wasn’t the only fighter who was rumored to make a return, as fighters such as Ronda Rousey and George St. Pierre were also brought into the mix. Dana white would halt any rumors of their return.
During the interview, White dismissed the rumors as he stated, “Ronda’s not coming back, GSP’s not coming back. Brock Lesnar’s like 45 years old or pushing 50. None of those calls were made.”
