Michael Chandler and Conor McGregor are facing each other as head coaches on season 31 of The Ultimate Season this year. Team McGregor put forth a pitiable performance, that saw them lose all fights except one in the initial rounds. This caused many fighters from Team Chandler to be moved to Team McGregor for the quarter and semi-finals.
The finale of TUF 31 will take place at UFC 292 this Saturday. Brad Katona will face Cody Gibson in the bantamweight bracket, while Kurt Holobaugh will fight Austin Hubbard for the lightweights. Many fans (and Chandler) felt this performance was a result of the Irishman’s coaching or lack thereof. Chandler recently spoke about what he has been telling his fighters as the finale approaches.

Chandler, spoke to Daniel Cormier on ESPN’s MMA show on YouTube. He spoke about him wanting to see his fighters put on a great performance. This was because he wishes to see them get a call from matchmaker Sean Shelby, VP of Talent Relations Mick Maynard, or even UFC president Dana White to get in the UFC. He was confident that most of the fighters will get into the UFC.
“So it was tough but ultimately my goal was to get these guys into the UFC get their minds right get their hearts right, get their emotions, and their spirits right. So they could go out there put on a great performance and then get that call from Sean Shelby, get that call from Mick Maynard, [from] Dana White to get into the UFC. And I think our guys put on good showings and I think most of them will get that opportunity,” he told ‘DC’.

A fighter is required to enter the USADA pool for six months before they can fight in the UFC. The Dubliner’s announcement probably means that the UFC could exempt him from the six-month rule. However, there is no official word from the UFC yet. Do you think the UFC should exempt McGregor from the six-month rule for his fight against Chandler? Tell us in the comments section below.
