Belal Muhammad has a fight against Leon Edwards but he’s sure Colby Covington would be an easier contender. Recently, the UFC announced a March 2024 bout between Muhammad and the reigning champion of the division, Leon Edwards. Nonetheless, the question if will Edwards remain the reigning champ by then remains.

‘Rocky’ is all set to face Colby Covington at UFC 296. There has obviously been a lot of trash talk from Covington’s side for the matchup. Currently, the fighter sits at a #3 ranking in the welterweight division, outdone by Usman and Muhammad. So why does Muhammad think ‘Chaos’ would be easier to beat?

Muhammad’s March bout will be a fight night event against Edwards. As the bout was announced, someone pointed out how Muhammad should be facing the winner of Covington vs Edwards. To this, the fighter had an interesting response as he decided to drag Covington through the mud.

“Colby is the easiest matchup in the top 10 for me” he responded in an X post. Do you think a #2 vs. #3 fight is as easy as Muhammad is making it sound? He is the current number 2 fighter in the roster and perhaps just as worthy of challenging the champ for the title.

So whether anyone likes it or not, if Covington manages to take down Edwards, a title fight for Muhammad is eventually very much possible. However, it is important to note that Leon Edwards has held the title since 2022 and has held a massive 12-fight win streak.

So will Covington prove to be the end of it all? He is close to the top of the division and he has his shot now. Kamaru Usman lost the title to Edwards and has since found trouble in the division. Especially with that last match against Khamzat Chimaev. Is this Covington’s chance to make his name in the division?

Covington about Leon Edwards

Covington has obviously not left any spare shots in his chamber when it comes to trashing ‘Rocky’. The whole character he’s built over the years profits off of  being loud and thrashing his opponents. The fighter believes that Edwards hasn’t really earned the title.

“He just cried, ‘I deserve this, I deserve that’, instead of just going out there and working for it or earning it like I did,” he said during a conversation. “I had to earn it the hard way.” Clearly, the champion’s efforts that led to the brilliant winning streak mean nothing to Covington who worked really hard to get where he is. But will his hard work pay off on December 16th? We’ll find out very soon.
