The main event at UFC 284 literally took the breath out of the fans with Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski going at each other with all their might. Without a doubt, the fight was labeled as the fight of the night. Although the Russian successfully defended his title as the lightweight champion, his conscience led him to believe that he wasn’t the winner in actuality. With nothing but honor and respect in the two fighter’s hearts, they have discussed having a rematch. However, another revelation was made which shed a bit of light on the fight.
Recently in an interview, Makhachev revealed that during the fight, his weight almost matched that of the Australian warrior. The interview found its way to Reddit and fans took over the comments section to discuss it.

In a recent interview, Makhachev revealed that his size was similar to that of ‘The Great’ during their fight. He reasoned that he didn’t get enough time to gain physical weight and strength. Moreover, he stated that he didn’t even have time to recover.
Makhachev said, “In fight, I was no bigger than Volkanovski because I didn’t have time to gain physical strength and weight. I didn’t have time to recover and I think in fight we weighed about the same. I completed the main task and maybe someone didn’t like that. The fight was hard, although MMA fans liked this fight very much.”
Without a doubt, the fans took over the comments section and disclosed their feelings. Nevertheless, the fans had nothing but respect for the fighters.

Here is what fans said:
- It’s odd when the winner of the fight is making excuses.
- I like that it translated to “fight of the Evening.” That sounds classy
- Volk himself said he weighed around 172 on fight night. Islam usually weighs 175. But he was lighter (around 172-173) vs Volk, because he didn’t have time to gain weight.
- It’s funny because Islam is saying everything Volk said he would if he loses, “He’s not a small guy, they were actually the same size, etc.” Just goes to show what Volk really did to Islam mentally and how he was right that Islam and everyone else would try to flip the story.
- Volkanovski was definitely stronger than him though.
- Lol he makes it hard to like him.
- Delusional.
- I feel bad for Islam and all the s**t he has to deal with after the fight. He’s been nothing but respectful and willing to run it back.
- We do have to consider that fighting at that heavy of weight is not that optimal for volkanovski. Being jacked and weighing a similar weight doesn’t mean it’s optimal for volk and his game plan.
