The UFC’s light heavyweight division has been stormed with hurdles lately. From champions relinquishing their titles due to injuries to a #1 contender fight ending in a no-contest, the 205 lbs category isn’t at its best. However, things are going to change at UFC 295. The next UFC PPV is headlined by Alex Pereira and Jiri Prochazka.

The two talented strikers will be facing off in the octagon for the vacant UFC light heavyweight title. Some months ago, the last champion Jamahal Hill had to vacate his UFC gold. The reason? A potentially career-altering injury in his Achilles tendon. Now, the title is up for grabs, and there are many other contenders hungry for a chance.

Technically, Hill never lost his UFC belt. Therefore, the American fighter deserves a title shot upon his return. However, many other fighters can take his place and face the winner of Pereira vs Prochazka. If ‘Poatan’ wins the UFC light heavyweight title, fans would want to see him face Israel Adesanya in a trilogy fight.

Adesanya has previously fought in the light heavyweight division, and can definitely move up to the division once more to face his rival. Moreover, two other talented fighters are sitting in the top ranks of the division, hungry for a title shot.

At UFC 294, Johnny Walker faced Magomed Ankalaev in a promising light heavyweight fight. Many believed that the winner of the fight would be granted a title shot next. However, the bout ended in the first few minutes itself and was declared a no-contest. Both Walker and Ankalaev are waiting for an opportunity to fight again. Further, the winner of this fight can also go on to challenge the next UFC light heavyweight champ.

Jamahal Hill returns at UFC 300?

‘Sweet Dreams’ has been out of UFC action for months now. In July of 2023, Hill suffered a ruptured Achilles, months after winning the UFC light heavyweight title. Initially, there were reports that the champion would be out for approximately a year. Recently, Hill appeared in an exclusive interview with LowKickMMA, where he discussed his return.

“My understanding is just to focus on recovery. Not putting a timeline on it,” Hill said. “Just working to see where we are,” he said. However, the former champion did not rule out the possibility of returning at UFC 300.
