Who are the greatest sibling duo in MMA? To be fair, there are not very many options to start with. The Diaz brothers are certainly the most famous, but there are also the Nogueira brothers. Although Aleksandar Emilianenko wasn’t nearly as good as his brother, Fedor, the duo is another MMA power sibling duo. But we’re here to tell you that neither of these is the greatest sibling duo in MMA.

That honor most likely goes to the Pitbull/Freire brothers. Patricio and Patricky Pitbull are objectively the greatest sibling duo in MMA ever. After all, they are the only siblings to hold MMA titles in major promotions in the history of the sport. Both men are Bellator legends, with Patricio considered the greatest-ever Bellator fighter by many. The latter, of course, has joined the UFC and is set to make his debut at UFC 314 against Yair Rodriguez on June 12. But what about his older brother, Patricky? Well, let’s find out more about him!

Meet Patricky Pitbull, Patricio’s Brother

Patricky Pitbull may be a bit overshadowed by Patricio’s achievements, but he is still one of the greatest Bellator lightweights in history. The older Pitbull holds many quite impressive promotional records which speak to his greatness. To start with, Patricky has the second most fights in Bellator history and the most in Bellator lightweight history at 25.

More impressively, however, he holds the record for most stoppage wins in the division’s history at 16, and his 11 knockout wins are the most stoppage/knockout wins by any Bellator lightweight ever. To cap it all off, he briefly held the lightweight title between November 2021 and November 2022, losing it to Usman Nurmagomedov, who has held the title ever since.

While his 16-10 record may not look too impressive, most of his losses came in the past few years, when he has been getting up in age. But most importantly, win or lose, the Brazilian former champ always comes to fight. A well-rounded fighter like his brother, the older Pitbull has the same devastating power, strong grappling, and warrior spirit as his brother, which is exactly the type of fighter Dana White and the fans love.

So why isn’t he in the UFC like his brother? Well, probably mainly because he’s too old. Patricky turned 39 in January 2025. Although he has continued fighting, with his last outing being a split decision loss to Bruno Miranda in 2024, he is 1-4 in his last five, and not really in a position to contend in the UFC.

What’s your perspective on:

Are the Pitbull brothers truly the greatest sibling duo in MMA, or do the Diaz brothers still reign?

Where are the Pitbull brothers from?

Despite coming from a military family, Patricio and his older brother, Patricky, spent much of their childhood brawling in the streets. Inspired by UFC 1 winner and pioneers of the sport like Royce Gracie, the brothers found a passion for martial arts early on. Their decision to pursue a professional fighting career was fueled not only by those early influences but also by strong encouragement and support from within their own family.

The Pitbull brothers, of course, are Brazilian. They were born in a small town on the outskirts of the city of Natal in the Rio Grande do Norte state of Northeast Brazil. They eventually moved to the city of Natal, where they started their MMA training. And Natal has been their home ever since.

Both men fight out of the coastal city, which is a hub for flights coming from Europe and Africa, and has a pretty well-developed infrastructure. The brothers live and train in Natal, and their gym, Team Pitbull, where they nurture the next generation of MMA talent, is also located in the city. What are your thoughts on Patricky Pitbull’s MMA career?
