Ben Askren keeps his fans in the loop on social media by sharing special moments with his family. As a result, his fans shower him with love in return. However, his recent attempt to compliment his wife, Amy Askren, on a public platform didn’t go as planned, and it backfired on him.
Ben and Amy have been happily married since 2010 and are proud parents of three beautiful children. Owing to their love for each other, the retired UFC fighter thought to show some public appreciation to his wife. Unfortunately, he couldn’t find the right words to express his feelings and ended up giving a backhanded compliment, which had quite an equivocal tone to it.
This misstep caused havoc among the fans, who couldn’t resist calling out the 38-year-old over his poor choice of words.

Fans troll Ben Askren for a lacking compliment on his wife
Ben Askren took to Twitter to offer a standout compliment to his wife, which was different from what most husbands do. The former Bellator and ONE Welterweight Champion decided to take aside the notion of complimenting wives for their looks and instead focused on complimenting other aspects of his wife.
I’ve seen some guys posting on social media lately about how they are winning bc their wife is attractive, while I don’t disagree I think finding a wife who is a great mother is 500% more important!!! Thanks @Abamaby for being such a great mom to our kids. pic.twitter.com/6lxb9Ybg66

Unfortunately, Ben couldn’t find the right words to convey his feelings, which caused the fans to troll him as a result. Despite his good intentions, he received backlash from the fans, who found his compliment to be hilarious.

Wherein this offered ways how it could’ve been avoided:
All he needed to add was an "and" in there somewhere and it would only come across in a positive way. He tried, I guess.

Wait you haven’t deleted this yet? Are you still married? Does she have twitter? Does she know you inadvertently called her unattractive? I have so many questions

Realizing the situation, the Iowa native quickly put out a clarification from his end, hoping to undo the damage caused by his poorly chosen words.
Mistake rectified immediately
Upon witnessing how his original compliment had backfired, Ben Askren immediately put out a follow-up tweet clarifying the idea over which the fans had been bashing him.
For those of you who are too dumb to realize multiple things can be true at once. My wife is both very hot and a great mother. Being a great mother is way more important as I originally stated. https://t.co/dei0ysYlwX

Even Ben’s wife responded to his first tweet, acknowledging that it didn’t come out the way he wanted it to. But she appreciated the gesture.
hahah its ok I know what he's trying to say 😘 And it's a much better compliment than "being pretty". I hope our daughters aspire to love people well and not seek their value in the way they look. Thanks @Benaskren . And I love you for more than your pretty face too.
