Alex Pereira moved up to the light heavyweight division recently after his loss to arch-rival Israel Adesanya. If it were any other fighter, there is a very good chance that they would be accused of running away after the loss and insinuations would have been made that he was scared of Adesanya. The fact that there have not even been whispers of dodging in the case of ‘Poatan’ shows the esteem and respect that he is held in. And for good reason. The man is the definition of the word warrior.
He followed Adesanya to the UFC after he felt disrespected by comments Adesanya had made about him in an interview. ‘Hands of Stone’ had defeated Adesanya twice in their two encounters in kickboxing. Adesanya’s said in an interview that no one knows Pereira while he is the world champion and that he would defeat him easily. This was before ‘Poatan’ had joined the UFC roster. This motivated Pereira to come to the UFC and defeat Adesanya. “I felt challenged,” Pereira said. “And whenever there’s a challenge, no one can hold me back” he added. Note that he didn’t come to the UFC because of the money and the fame, but because of the disrespect he felt, like a true warrior.
The former lightweight had a meteoric rise in the UFC and beat Adesanya via TKO, in a shocking upset at UFC 281. Pereira has significant power in his fists, so much so, that he is able to move people with punches on their guards. Whether his power has translated to the higher weight-class is not entirely clear since his debut against Jan Blachowicz saw a fair bit of grappling, despite the Pole claiming he would test his striking against Pereira. And he went on vacation with his family after the bout.

Alex Pereira vacation with his wife and kids
Alex Pereira has been in some hard battles recently. He lost the middleweight title to Israel Adesanya in their rematch at UFC 287. He defeated the Polish Jan Blachowicz in a hard fought lightweight bout via split decision at UFC 291, which some felt should have gone Blachowicz’s way. It is therefore good to see him unwind and let his hair down on a well-deserved vacation with his girlfriend- Merle and two kids- Alessandro Vidal Silva, 12, and Lohan Vidal Silva (age unknown) in Germany.
The Brazilian visited the famous Europa-Park. It is a theme park located in the Rust municipality in Baden-Württemberg state in southwest Germany. He has entertained fans and shown his lighter side with various social media posts from Germany. These include his peculiar ride on a roller-coaster and meeting ‘Volkanovski’.
Alex Pereira’s stone cold face on German rollercoaster
On his official Instagram account, Poatan posted a picture of him riding the rollercoaster with his kids and girlfriend. While his wife and kids can be seen screaming in excitement, ‘Poatan’ is seen sitting with his arms crossed and with his signature stone-faced expression, unfazed by the considerable g-force acting on his body.

The former middleweight champion captioned the post with a self-deprecating caption, making fun of his serious expression on the ride, to the delight of fans’ and Daniel Cormier. “Today is a very fun day in Germany Party 🔥” the tongue-in-cheek caption read. And this was preceded by another humorous moment where the 36-year-old claimed to have met ‘Volkanovski’.
Alex Pereira runs into Alexander Volkanovski’s doppelganger at Germany’s Europa Park
Alex Pereira posted a video from Europa-Park, claiming to have met the UFC featherweight champion, the Australian Alexander Volkanovski. But, the only problem is that Volkanovski was not in Europa-park, Germany, or even Europe at that time. It was, actually a look-alike, who ‘Hands of Stone’ was the Australian, in an attempt to troll the real Volkanovski.
The video begins with a smiling Pereira in frame, who claims to have run into Volkanovski’. “Alright guys i’m here at Europa Park. Look who I found here – Volkanovski. Look at this. I met him here in Germany, at the park,” the Brazilian says as he moves the camera towards a short, fat, bald guy. The fake ‘Volk’ agrees and simply states “You find me here in the park,” and the video ends.

Fans are glad to see Pereira actually smiling and making jokes, in contrast to his usually serious and stoic demeanor. The Brazilian once said of himself “I don’t laugh, but I am happy”. And that is the perfect description of ‘Poatan’, who didn’t even crack a smile after his shocking victory over Adesanya.
