Khusein Askhabov is one of the most promising talents currently in the UFC. But a recent incident involving him and his twin brother has rocked the MMA community. Let us take a look at what led to the arrest of the 28-year-old fighter in Thailand.

Khusein Askhabov gets arrested in Thailand

Khusein Askhabov and his brother Khasan Askhabov were detained in Phuket after the forcible confinement, physical assault, and theft of an Italian national at his villa within a resort. Moreover, the brothers have been slapped with a case of kidnap, torture, and extortion. The incident took place just a day after UFC 293. They were there for Muay Thai training before finding themselves on the wrong side of the law.

Khusein Askhabov and his brother were also connected to three Kazakh nationals who were also involved in beating up and torturing the Italian man in Phuket. Three unnamed Kazakhs allegedly restrained and silenced their victim for an extended duration in an attempt to extract information.

Subsequently, they absconded from the premises with stolen goods amounting to 12 million Thai baht ($338,038), including high-end timepieces such as Rolex and Patek Philippe, a MacBook, and a couple of iPhones. While we are waiting for further details on the situation, let us take a look at Askhabov’s UFC career.

Askhabov’s UFC career so far

At the age of 28, Khusein Askhabov has already fought in over 24 MMA fights. Prior to coming to the UFC, he had an unbeaten record of 23 wins. Askhabov previously fought in promotions like World Warriors Fighting Championships, Grand European Fighting Championship, and Legion Fight. He is also a former Russian Combat Sambo Champion.

However, his UFC career did not start on a high. Debuting in the promotion as a featherweight, He suffered his first professional defeat at UFC Vegas 69 to Jamall Emmers, who boasts a modest record of two wins and four losses in Dana White‘s promotion. We are yet to see Khusein Askhabov make an impact inside the Octagon.

It remains to be seen how the Thai authorities will go about their investigation regarding the arrest of Khusein Askhabov.
