Not a lot is known about Leon Edward’s personal life as he prefers to keep those details away from the spotlight that comes with being a massive star in the UFC. However, Edwards has referred to his family as the main driving force behind his continued success in the sport of mixed martial arts.

After successfully defending his welterweight title against Kamaru Usman at UFC 286, Edwards stated in the post-fight press conference, “I’m a kid born in Jamaica with nothing. My dad was involved in gang crime. A single mum raised me. It’s a great story to tell, and to make my son proud of me for what I’m doing, means the world to me.”

According to information available online, Edwards has one son who is reportedly named Jayon. ‘Rocky’ has only shared a couple of pictures on his Instagram account back in 2022, with the caption, ‘Rocky Jr’ and his UFC title wrapped around the young man’s waist. There isn’t any publicly available information about Edwards’ wife or when his son was born or the welterweight champion’s current relationship status.

Currently riding high on a 13-fight win streak, the second longest in the welterweight division’s history, Edwards is set to defend his title for the third time against Belal Muhammad at UFC 304 on July 27. However, ‘Rocky’ has indicated that his days as a welterweight may be coming to an end as he has his eyes set on another challenge for the future!

Edwards confident in his ability to become ‘champ-champ’

Leon Edwards has been in the crosshairs of Islam Makhachev, the current UFC lightweight champion, who has indicated that he’d like to step up for a champion-versus-champion clash against the British fighter soon. But ‘Rocky’ isn’t so sure about the matchup as he recently stated in an interview with Bleacher Report, “(Fighting Makhachev excites me) a little bit but also, I think my main aim now is to move up and win a second belt.”

But how does Edwards feel about his chances in the 185 lbs. division? A supremely confident ‘Rocky’ revealed that, “I match up perfectly with all of them (at middleweight), I’ve got the height already and I’ll build into the weight class with time, and skill for skill, I’ll be able to match them all.”

Standing at 6’ft tall, Edwards has previously competed at middleweight all the way back in 2011 when he fought Pawel Zwiefka at Fight UK MMA and won a unanimous decision victory to go 2-0 in his professional MMA record. It remains to be seen if Edwards can capture another belt but for now, all eyes remain on his upcoming clash with Belal Muhammad as ‘Rocky’ looks to add another name to his list of successful title defenses at UFC 304!
