Norma Dumont has something in common with Veronica Hardy and Rose Namajunas. Did you guess it? Yes, it’s that their partners/spouses are also MMA fighters. Dumont’s partner is not as famous as Dan Hardy or Pat Barry. He has not made headlines like his other two counterparts either, so it’s ok if you were not in the know about him, because we are more than happy to fill you in.
Dumont is on a 4-fight winning run heading into her next bout at Noche UFC this weekend. She has amassed a 7-2 record in the UFC across two weight classes, which is no mean feat. Her partner Johny Vieira has played a crucial role in helping her gain this momentum. So, before the pair makes their appearance at UFC 306, let’s take a look at their journey so far.

Johny Vieria and Norma Dumont have known each other for quite some time now but have kept their relationship rather private. While most of the fans know a lot about Dumont, not much is known about her partner. To begin with, Vieira himself is a professional MMA fighter and holds a record of 5-3-0 in his career while fighting from 2011-2017.
Their journey together began in 2010, and since then they have stayed together and hopefully will tie the knot soon. The pair doesn’t post much of their pictures together and their social media is full of training videos. Unlike typical couples, this particular one spends most of their time in the gym helping each other perfect their skill.
Vieira often engages in intense pad sessions with Dumont and also helps her perfect her jiu-jitsu skills. He also accompanies her to her fights in the Octagon and constantly passes instructions during her fights.

Let us now shift our focus to Dumont’s early life. The Brazilian is currently one of the finest fighters in the UFC, but her journey to the top has not been easy. If you dig deep enough into her personal life, you’ll find one more person who pushed her just as hard, if not harder than her partner Johny Vieira. But first take a closer look at their personal struggles and also what Vieira achieved in his short MMA career.
What is Johny Vieira’s MMA record and the struggle the pair has faced to date?
In his professional MMA career, Vieira has secured 5 victories and 3 losses. He began his professional journey with a phenomenal win at Parana Regional in 2011. However, his second fight, at JF Fights in 2012, resulted in a loss. But switching championships was indeed a boon for the Brazilian, as he secured a win before facing two consecutive defeats.
Vieira then jumped to fight under the banner of Fortuna Fighters and won the bout with an impressive rear naked choke. Later on, he fought at Federacao Fight 4 and Federacao Fight 5, in 2017, and won both of them. However, Vieira hasn’t stepped into an MMA cage ever since his bout against Cemey dos Santos was canceled in 2019.
Despite their impressive careers in the world of mixed martial arts, Vieira and Dumont have been facing quite some issues with their income. ‘The Immortal’ has voiced her problems many times in her interviews. Let’s take a look at the couple’s financial situation.
Dumont and Vieira have faced quite a bit of hurdles financially. Talking to MMA Fighting, right before her bout against Felicia Spencer, Dumont disclosed why she had to take up the fight on short notice. It was indeed because of her financial struggles. She didn’t have enough money to fly to the US for her fight. Thankfully, the UFC dived in to help her out.
Dumont confessed, “Actually, the UFC paid part [of my purse] up front. They also wanted me to stay here, so they helped me a lot. Our gym in Brazil was closed up until last week so we don’t have money coming in.” After revealing that Vieira had to take up food delivery, she said, “We’ll see how things go after the fight, if we’ll still need to continue doing that, because [living in Las Vegas] isn’t cheap, it’s not the bed of roses people think it is. It’s not, you’ll have to work. But I worked in Brazil, so it’s all good. We’ll continue [to work] if we have to.”

Dumont said, “I’m fighting to survive, to live, to pay the rent, my bills. That’s what some people don’t understand. I’ve never had a good financial situation. I’ve always been hustling. People who are close to me know it.” ‘The Immortal’ broke all rumors about her “swimming in money” and revealed that Vieira worked hard in a gym and earned enough to pay the rent, while she was focused on fighting.
Norma Dumont’s early life and family
Norma Dumont comes from a very humble background and faced a lot of problems in her personal life. Dumont’s father abandoned the family when she was just four years old, leaving her mother to raise four children on her own. However, she did not let it hamper her preparation, so she decided to get back to training at 19 and started pursuing her dream. While many would credit the fighter for her success, she believes it’s the sheer willpower of her mother that helped the Brazilian fighter achieve her dreams in MMA. Before her debut fight in the UFC, while speaking to UFC.com, she showed her appreciation towards her mother.

She said, “My father abandoned my mother and his three daughters when I was just four years old. Even so, my mother won in life and supported us alone, but with determination.” She did not have a fairytale beginning to her career and lost her debut fight. But the Brazilian fighter learned from her mistake and has changed her fortunes with some consistent performances inside the Octagon. She will now be featured at the upcoming UFC 306 event in the Sphere and will challenge Irene Aldana.
