However, the Brazilian fighter took a liking to BJJ around the same time as his elder brothers picked the sport. Afterward, he won the 2018 American No Gi Championship, simultaneously nurturing his MMA career.

Markedly, the Niterói native made his MMA debut in 2012 and then penned a contract with ONE Championship. After going 6-0 in his initial career, he suffered a two-loss slump. After the completion of his ONE Championship contract, he signed with Titan FC. The change in the organization also brought him good fortune, as he bounced from his slump. However, is he currently fighting under UFC? Let’s have a look.

The 36-year-old is under a UFC contract and earned his way through Dana White’s Contender Series in 2019. Appearing on the 23rd installment, he faced Darrick Minner and picked up a UFC contract after a dominating submission win.

Subsequently, he made his UFC debut against Nate Landwehr in January 2020 and announced himself on the biggest stage with another commanding finish. While The Way Martial Arts representative also won his next fight against Evan Dunham at 250, the weight-cutting concerns plagued him.

After losing his bout against Daniel Pineda at UFC 252, Burns had a bit of bad luck in his next few fights as the Brazilin lost the next three fights against Bill Algeo, Julio Arce and Jack Jenkins. The fighter is currently riding a four-fight losing streak, with a professional MMA record of 11-6 record. However, despite his lackluster performance, the fighter indeed shared a very special moment with his brother Gilbert Burns.

Despite the continuous call by the referee Keith Peterson to stand up, Burns was exhausted and understood that his knew had given up. As the younger brother grunted in pain, Gilbert Burns couldn’t handle it and jumped to carry his brother-stricken brother backstage.

A photo of them went viral and the entire UFC community was struck by awestruck by the event. The rare brotherly love was appreciated by the fans but they were a bit concerned for Burns. He further added, “Unfortunately [it] wasn’t the result I was looking for. My knee gave out. It was not stable and I could not continue fighting. I couldn’t finish the triangle. I couldn’t perform the way I wanted to, but I’ll be back. I don’t know what is going to happen there. Another surgery, we will see.” Well, after his back-to-back losses, it is now clear that Herbert Burns would not reach as high as his brother. After his last loss against Jack Jenkins, ‘Durinho’ came up to provide a moment of appreciation for his brother.

“He must win this fight to keep his job.” Gilbert Burns said, “If he loses, we know he’s out, he has no chance. I talked to him yesterday night…he’s fighting 8 AM on Sunday there. … He’s acclimating very, very good. But Jack Jenkins, that guy has a good heart, a couple of crazy leg kicks, hits hard, durable. For sure I hope my brother wins, but the conversation we had before he left was like, ‘Bro, make sure you leave everything in that cage.”
