When the discussion is about the best boxers in the UFC, a plethora of fans would happily place the noted UFC Lightweight, Dustin Poirier, on the top of their list. ‘The Diamond’s’ insane striking prowess and remarkable durability have boosted his current professional record to a remarkable 29-7. Quite understandably, a large chunk of fans will root for him during his upcoming UFC 291 bout for the coveted ‘BMF’ title against Justin ‘The Highlight’ Gaethje.

Most UFC fans might remember the teary-eyed Poirier when he won the UFC Interim Lightweight Championship against Max Holloway at UFC 236. It was also Poirier’s most emotional post-fight interview to date. Talking to the famed Joe Rogan, Poirier dedicated his Interim Lightweight title to his wife. He also revealed that she stood by him through the times when “he returned home busted and broken.”

‘The Diamond’ has credited his wife for other UFC victories as well. She accompanies Poirier to almost all his fights and has also stepped into the octagon multiple times after ‘El Diamante’s’ triumphs. Poirier didn’t have a pretty ruly childhood. His father abandoned him and his mother after their divorce, while he was just 5 years of age. Hence, it won’t be wrong to say that Jolie has been Dustin’s primary source of support after his mother.

Reportedly, Poirier met Jolie for the first time while they were both in their high school years. Although ‘The Diamond’ dropped out of school after juvenile detention, he never left Jolie behind. The couple finally decided to tie the knot on 4 September 2019, when Poirier was just 20 years of age.

Once he appeared on the noted former UFC Heavyweight, Brendan Schaub’s podcast, and stated, “What’s beautiful tho, my wife’s been there since the first fight when I was 18”. Quite understandably, Poirier’s fans will want him to continue this loving relationship for many more years to come.

McGregor addressed Jolie, stating, “Congratulations, he[Poirier] fought a great fight”. She acknowledged McGregor and stated, “Thank you for everything. It’s gonna help change a lot of people’s lives”, for the amount of $500,000 that McGregor had pledged to donate.

However, the UFC community created a catchphrase out of McGregor’s bitter words after his second loss to Poirier at UFC 264. He also broke his shinbone completely in the bout, which has kept him out of fighting to date. The injured McGregor sat on the canvas and stated, “Your wife is in my DM’s. Hey baby, hit me back up and I’ll chat to you later on. We’ll be having an afterparty at the Wynn nightclub baby”, while Poirier was leaving the octagon after a victory.

But ‘The Irish’ has failed to provide any substantial proof of his words to date. This implies that it was just another piece of trash talk that McGregor is often known for. However, Jolie was pretty quick to react to McGregor’s tasteless remarks inside the octagon.
